Forrester, TC in Mecinial Mushrooms I, said ezDial monos would be good.
https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/27496866
Just spawned three more monos and I have 10 more quarts colonizing.

If these go straight into a fc (immediate fruiting conditions) would that dry out the sub while it's colonizing? I'm just guessing (total noob here) that these benefit from being latched down until the top layer is colonized?
I'm (very excited) to give this a shot!

Keep the shoebox lid latched down until 100% colonized, then put in a fc.
No problems.

Got one p9 style shoe box wrapping up. Fun watching it colonize. felt a little weird going 1:6.

The huaulta shoeboxes I ran did indeed dry up on the sub surface.
I was using the standard shoebox without latches, though.

I run a dehumidifier all the time, keeping my entire basement at 45%RH. All my shoeboxes go into a tub or greenhouse from the start or the top gets dried out.

Yeah it feels weird at first.
Had to dump my shoebox, due to unforseen circumstances I'm all packed up and out of the game for a while.

Going to let these last blocks fruit and then onto the next adventure.

Little update on my glad containers… I think I used too high of a ratio (or low.. I still don’t know how to say it ) and thats why I saw blobbing even after the 2” layer.. it was a 1:2. It’s a theory I’ve been think for a long time.. high nutes in the sub causes some sub strains of PE to mutate.. I believe it’s why on the second flush of blob tubs you see regular fruits and putting a thick top layer and casing layers in to raise the fruiting surface away from the high nute source cause normal fruits.. just a theory and could be in conjunction with other factors like unbroken colonies like pasty suggested
Anyway.. after I saw blobbing, I put down a very thin late casing layer and it seems to have helped.. lined tub:

The non lined tub is blobbing more (with some top pins) on the sides and I attribute that to not having a liner

I think your 1:6 ratio box would’ve done great, p9.

I agree, too much spawn causes problems especially for mutants.

For what it's worth a thicker top layer seems to work well for PE and seems to have no effect on most other strains in my immediate experience so far. In my case it noticeably increased the overall pinset consistently for PE. I used a 1" top layer at spawn, based on my usual 1/4" light covering
1/4"
