What about the poor plants? In this arbitrary scheme where do they fall. Is not life life - tearing up plants and killing them to feed us is murder as much as meat.
I can't quite understand why plants never get respect.

I'm a hunter.. so I've already killed cute bunnies, squirrlies, deer, even a few pheasants. My sister used to hunt, until she shot a deer. Cleanest shot I've seen, the deer was immediately down, but it got to her. More precisely, the other two deer that it was with, that stopped when the first died and were calling for it to get up.
And we eat what we kill. The few times I've killed something and not ate it, I felt bad about it ( but sometimes there's too many parasites). It's no more or less right or wrong to kill one animal or another.. however, killing without need is counterproductive. We don't realize it now because it doesn't affect us, but if you kill for no reason and you're a primitive human, you'd quickly lose your food supply, and with hardly any gain from all that effort expended.
.. a sidebar, but I simply do not understand where anyone gets the idea that early humans ate nuts and berries exclusively. they did, yes, but they also hunted the shhiiit out of whatever they could find. In fact the early australians, having taken a while to get there, and having developed hunting skills before the animals of that continent ever knew what a human was.. killed off all mammals on that continent over about 100lbs. We were eating meat before we were making tools.

Actually, the most spiritually balanced food is fruit. The plant is not harmed and seeds are "designed" to be carried by herbivores to a new location and deposited in
the nutrient-rich animal feces. This is a win-win synergistic situation.
*Swami goes and grabs a handful of grapes.* Mmm!

I think hunting is less wrong than eating domesticated livestock. If I could hunt my own meat instead of buying meat from cows raised from birth to be killed, I'd feel better about myself.

Very few people are in positions to becomes fruitarian, though. I mean, can you imagine having to only eat what falls off of a tree naturally?

perhaps the most successful plants are grasses, specifically grain bearing grasses - wheat and rice.
sure we consume a fair proportion of their seeds, but we also take the trouble to plant a good % for the next harvest - a very beneficial relationship for all concerned.
if wheat and rice were left to do it on their own, only a miniscule % of their seeds would grow and they wouldnt be covering such vast tracts of land.
many plants give to survive - 'developing relationships' with animals or humans. why do you think fruit is so delicious?

plenty of roos weigh in at well over 100lbs, mind you they wouldve been hard to catch and are pretty good at disembowelling people when they are pissed off.
fave food is the sand goanna, which was traditionally caught and killed by hand -

thx for the correction.. couldnt remember the exact weight, it might be 200lbs or something heh. but basically, there had been a lot of big, big mammals, and then not. just like in north america when humans made it here, but a bit more extreme because humans got to north america before australia i believe.. and so the australians were put in a new environment with even more advanced hunting techniques vs. even more naive animals.
fruit's good, i like fruit. a lot. eat grapes and strawberries all day at work. allll day.

The majority of people are like that. There is no real right or wrong but only what the majority accepts as right or wrong.
