    #2742625 - 05/28/04 09:27 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Ok, I have examined two specimens, an older(larger) and a younger. I can't quite seem to pin the ID down, i'll try to provide further details if needed. Thanks for the help!

I think i've got a very likely candidate:

Stropharia rugosoannulata (wine-cap stropharia)

it seems to match up every point,  It doesn't resmeble any of the look-a-likes either This species is listed as a choice edible, so if i'm correct, it'll be a good day!

UPDATE* I googled up some pics of the wine-cap and it clinched my suspicions:

tomorrow I will be back at the patch to collect the other mature specimens and will be making trade-quality prints

Be careful to note the appearance of the ring (partial veil). It is a key feature of Stropharia rugosoannulata relative to the rest of the genus.

Happy mushrooming!

Definately, the one i found first didn't have the ring(the younger one) which is why i had so much trouble at first in iding.  When I got the second one it had quite a ring, but it seperated pretty easily, which is what seemingly happened to my first find before i got to it.

I'm happy with the amount of spore drop, i've already got 3 dark prints from one cap!

thanks for the tip
