If you properly cook your grain, there is no way they would sprout.

My question is, how much do seeds in coir increase the chances of contamination? I mean, we wait for our grain spawn to be fully colonize before adding it to the coir because any exposed grain is more than likely to cause contamination. Isn't exposed seeds in the coir be the same as exposed grain?

if you guys like anime movies to trip with, try Mindgame. the movie itself is a trip and explores questions of life/meaning/reality.

oh boy, i wrapped my shoeboxes with cling wrap while colonizing to get maybe slightly better flushes and today (4 days in) i dubbed them for more fae because i read if you dont use completely clean plates its better to let more fae in case of contams.

well one of them had a slightly fermented smell, not bad per say, but fermenty. the other one didnt have much smell. the fermenty one looks 70% colonized from what i can see from the sides and the no smell is about 90%.

Should i be worried? maybe seperate the fermenty one in a seperate room?

Is the smell kinda acrid, ammonia-ish?

I've wondered this too.. I guess you could test it by just putting some uncooked grain with some coir and watering it like you were trying to start the seeds.. Unfortunately, I don't really have anecdotal evidence to offer as I haven't been logging my failure rate based off of whether a seed sprouted or not. I would think they aren't the proper level of hydration such that a contam could eat their insides, else they wouldn't survive too well.. But

Maybe some anaerobic bacteria

No weird smells are good though. Keep fae high but expect the worst if it doesn't smell right

I hydrate a shitload of coir at a time with cold tap water and whats leftover sits in a tub till i need it. I'll get a sprout pop up in the coir holding bin now and then. Ive had them pop up in my spawned tubs b4 and can't connect any contamination to them.

I have thrown a few quarts of uncooked wheat in my compost and wound up with a massive smelly chia pet looking thing. Wheat grass is a beautiful green.

Just popping in to say that the 1.6g was pretty great for a lower-side dose. I got a heavy body load at about 2 hours in and had an interesting moment with a tree on my balcony and some minor CEV's.

The husband smoked a bunch of keef with his before peaking and got slammed pretty hard, in a good way. It was amusing. He made the newbie mistake of thinking it wasn't working even though I told him that's usually when it'll bite ya.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my first little flush. Thanks to everyone who shared in my little triumph.

In nature shrooms grow in tall grass. I've incorporated grass into my grows, it doesn't hurt anything as long as you properly pasteurized. We are never truly sterile, there's tons of bacteria, viruses, and every other microorganism we don't think about. I think it's just a numbers game we are outcompeting everything else by unloading a ton of spores or myc.

Grass could help me with a problem I'm having now: how to maintain proper surface conditions without enough moisture/condensation for pseudomonas to take hold. It's running rampant in my place. The simpler solution I'm thinking of is to remove lids when pins appear, and bottom water/side water if needed to make up for the lost moisture if needed.

Do you case with pasteurized soil and plant the grass seeds in that?

Have you tried dialing in a mono? All sorts of people around the world are able to maintain surface conditions without growing grass

My surface conditions are fine. Pseudomonas isn't caused by surface conditions (unless you are misting/watering, and I'm not). I think the humidity in the tub is too high. I hope I can solve that with ridiculously high FAE--I'll keep drilling more holes until the side condensation goes away. If there's side condensation, there's also fruiting body condensation, so long as pins/fruits are cooler than the substrate, and I think they always will be. If the surface dries up while the walls are still wet, then I'll have to try misting. Tubs/FCs are the problem, not the solution.

I'm making this up as I go along, but I haven't seen any posts about how to get rid of pseudo, so all I can do is try what seems reasonable.

I wouldn't worry yet. I've seen a (kind of lame) LC take even longer than five days. It's probably growing, it just hasn't established a strong network.
