Can myc be transfered to a plastic baggie to finish?
    #2741324 - 05/28/04 11:35 AM (19 years, 9 months ago)

this is a foaf's first time growing shrooms. Her myc was sweating and almost done colonizing so she put it in a plastic bag with a little air in it so it could breathe- then back into the incubator. She only did this with 1 jar. Should she do it to the rest too? Or is this a bad idea?

This is going to increase your risk of contamination. If your jars need fresh air, flip them upside down to let some of the C02 out and fresh oxygen in and they should finish up fine. Best of luck.

Muchas Gracias! The hole in her tyvek was so teeny though, it didn't seem like it could let much air through!

tyvek will breath without a single hole in it.
"Tyvek? is water resistant, yet breathable"

Eatyoualive, over at the nook has a "lazy mofo bag tek". It involves poking pin-sized holes in a ziplock bag, for gas exchange.

I tried out his bag tek, for colonizing additional BRF substrate, and it did absolutely nothing. Didn't even contam. I even poked more holes than he recommended. I'm pretty sure that it was still because of a lack of gas exchange though. But it MIGHT have been because my colonized cake was at 100% colonization when added to the substrate bag, and was in somewhat of a dormant stage. I don't really know.
