Got 3 pots like that I'll just have to tediously trim them out with little scissors I guess.
The black swan have a few that germinated I really hope they make it. The soldier boy never germinated unfortunately.
Next year I'm definitely starting way earlier. Going to use 36mm supplemented peat pucks packed into large tin serving trays. 5-7 seeds per puck. That way I can bottom water. I have a mudroom that gets lots of sun and is cold during January and February. Then just carefully plant the pucks into my army of fabric pots.

If you want, you could try transplant some seedlings as well as thin them out.
Dig up a few small clusters with a spoon. Being careful not to disturb the roots of both the ones you take & the existing ones you’re thinning out throughout the whole process.
Take the bits of soil with the seedling still growing in it and set them in a tray of hydrated hydrogel for plants. You can replant these with some of the hydrogel spaced out in a different garden bed or pot & put some additional moisture retention products around the replanted seedlings like peat moss. To help them with the stress. If all goes well your existing clusters should grow out better & you’ll have more that could potentially grow with vigour.

I thought about trying transplanting. May do that I dunno. They're labeled "Everything Mix" from MadMuncher so I don't even know what they are besides being somniferum. This is just a get my toe wet learning year.
Next year I'm gonna buy a nice bag of black swan seeds from a good supplier and dobthe peat puck thing I described and just put them all over my property.
Back in my woods there's a clearing that gets direct sunlight for hours in the evening and indirect scattered light all day. So I'll have to chem spray and kill everything in an area then prep it, rotatill it working in some amendments then plant hundreds of the grown pucks throughout it.

The only trouble I had germinating was with the Blue Afghan. I think the seeds were old. I’ve been able to transplant by lifting small sections and giving them a couple of days to recover then I thin to single plants. Your plan for next year sounds good. It was surprising to me to watch the seedlings come up in February at such cool temperatures.

I caught this squirrel being impatient and fiendishly cut this one down . Was it too soon ? Do they have to be dry to consume them and feel results ? Can someone point this squirrel in the right direction so he can get this monkey off his back sometime today if possible.

No stress. Hoping that whatever you decide to do, that it all works out.

The pods would be viable at any stage of its growth. Seems to have been cut at its prime which is fine, as you can eat them fresh. Could’ve extracted opium from the pod at that stage, although your garden photo shows that you have them out the front on display so I would imagine you don’t want people knowing what’s up. If you want to save the pods for drying just let them grow out till they drop their seeds. By which stage they should already be dry.

That's interesting looking. Nice colors just formed weird. I did get a couple of those to germinate but they're scrawny seedlings and seem weak.

well there was a big long post here but its gone. no pink frills or pure whites yet this year but havnt had time to check every patch yet missing a lot right now. lots of reds and a few pinks this year. lots of purples+blues too but they are slower than the reds and just starting to flower. you might want to turn away before it gets emotional we are going to talk about love again
first flower, the only surviving potted yearling
this is the "gem of the garden", the "ruins of castles and kingdoms". i counted up to 34 on there and got lost
