Quinoa??, ??......Supergrain????
    #2740217 - 05/28/04 03:07 AM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Quinoa contains more protein than any other grain; an average of 16.2 percent, compared with 7.5 percent for rice, 9.9 percent for millet, and 14 percent for wheat. Some varieties of quinoa are more than 20 percent protein.

Quinoa's protein is of an unusually high quality. It is a complete protein, with an essential amino acid balance close to the ideal ... similar to milk!

Quinoa's protein is high in lysine, methionine and cystine. This makes it an excellent food to combine with, and boost the protein value of, other grains (which are low in lysine), or soy (which is low in methionine and cystine).

Rich & Balanced Source of Nutrients
Besides its unique protein, quinoa also provides starch, sugars, oil (high in essential linoleic acid), fiber, minerals, and vitamins.

Easy on the Stomach
Quinoa is light, tasty, and easy to digest. It is not sticky or heavy like most other grains, and it has a delicious flavor all its own.

QUINOA

WHAT DO YOU THINK???

I am at least going to try it, has anyone here ??????

I think it will work well, but I dont think that it will so much better then millet or popcorn, but I will see how it works.

i've already tried it. only colonized 1 half pint. it was a test. Problem was, it's hard to shake.

straight millet can also be used.

I'm about to do a test with Wheat Berries.
Look forward to a head to head between wheat berries, rye berries, and barley.

Yeah, alien isn't just at nansnook, you'll find many of his posts here as well as any other shroom board that's been around for a couple of years. You should also be able to find plenty of others around here who have used his formula with good results. Not being snide, but seriously, try the search engine, you are bound to find lots of quino a info.l

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

novice here, grown a few batches
used alien substrate (with a pinch extra quinoa)
makes KICK ASS shrooms
very potent
shrooms make psilocybin from tryptophan
supposedly quinoa has the highest trp content of any grain

Anyone know if tryptophan can be synthesized de novo by fungi or if it is an essential amino acid for them too?

You can also go to your local GNC and get L-5-Hydroxytryptophan and add it to your substrate if your so inclined. Theres debate about wether it actually works in increasing potency though.

a quote from Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World by paul stamets -
"Gartz (1989) determined that psilocin levels of flushes were naturally low (.1%) from a sterilized mixture of cow dung and rice (2:1), but could be raised up to 3.3% with the additionof only 25 miligrams of tryptamine into 10 grams of substrate. Furthher more, his study showed that at least 22% of psilocybin was derived from the introduced radioactive tagged tryptamine. This tudy reinforced the concept that substrate composition affects potency."
So here we have a proven study that shows tryptamine in the substrate increases the psiloc(yb)in levels. Being that tryptamine is a "Biogenic amine formed from the decarboxylation of tryptophan by L-aromatic amino acid decarboxylate" (from the sigma catalogue of biochimals and reagents. i.e. tryptamoine is a metabolite of tryptophan) one would suspect that tryptophan would also help in boosting the psiloc(yb)in levels. Never heard of a scientific study about it, but many posts here suggest it. Also tryptophan has been found in mushy's and is suspected to be a precursor for psiloc(yb)in in the mushroom biology.

>his study showed that at least 22% of psilocybin was derived from the introduced radioactive tagged tryptamine.

So this means that 78% of psilocybin was derived from the substrate?

I guess so, though he did use the word "atleast" so the psilocybin % might even be higher in some cases, but not lower.
But that would mean that if your substrate would naturally have tryptamine/tryptophan in it, then it would increase the psilocybin/cin content.
