Anyone play these games growing up? I guess there's a 4th one coming out in a few months, planning on picking it up. Booted up Aoe3 and been having fun with it, I get pummeled anytime I play online though.

Yeah I played AoE online and AoE 2 on my own. That one you posted, is that the AoE 2 remake? Not AoE 4... surely...

I got the remastered AoE 1 a little while back, sometimes I'll play a game or two.
Just not online. I think I'd rather remove a testicle with a rusty ice cream scoop than play online.

Actually Im not sure, I just googled Aoe4 and that was one of the images that came up. I know there's a ton of expansions and DLC so it could be something older

I've played a couple more games online and beat some decent competition, it's actually pretty fun. There's way too much depth in the strategy for me to ever really learn how to play seriously though.

Yeah, the third game I played the guy messaged me afterwards asking why I didn't try to win  . Online is all about speed, if you're not aged up and and building a solid military by minute 7 or 8 it's over. There are "treaty" games too though where you both agree not to attack for 20-30 minutes and can focus on building your economy.
After watching a few youtube videos I understand the strategy a lot better now. I wouldn't recommend this game for people who want to play online though, it has a stupid "home city" feature where you have to level up before you get access to different upgrades... meaning when you're new you're at a huge disadvantage against anyone who's not, and it takes awhile to level up. I want to try playing with a different civilization but I'd be at a level 0 home city and would just get beat even worse. Luckily the AI is actually really good and a lot of fun to play against

Aoe4 is coming out in a few days, pretty pumped. The youtube hype seems to be saying it's going to be a solid game

I saw that the other day. Not any individual Youtube videos, just that it will be out soon.
Looks cool. But I probably won't be buying it on release.
