distilled or natural water?
    #2739104 - 05/27/04 09:30 PM (19 years, 9 months ago)

Is it better to maintain a humid environmet with natural water(pond, creek, etc.) or distilled water in a terrarium? I've heard differing opinions on this issue.

run water from your sink and boil that it for i think its 15-25 min sumshit like that i figure i would save time and used distilled water and for some crazy reason it got contamed but yet i boil all my water now and havent had that problem

i have a bunch of half gallon ball canning jars i boil a bunch of water then throw them in teh half gallon jars for later use when ever i need them

alot of ppl may say u can use just reg water in your terrarium but hey y risk it 15-25 min u can spare that to boil some water

P.s i might of got contam from droplets falling from my lid onto my casing im not sure if that was the problem or not but i dont risk anything no more 1 stupid mistake can take a few weeks of work away from u

I don't think it would matter as long as the water is clean. After all, the water that evaporates will be devoid of any minteral content that might be present in the natural water to begin with.

I just use regular tap water as well. I have had problems with some jar contamination during the incuvating stage. I don't think it was the water. I think it had to do with my Presure Cooking. I allso think it depends on how clean your tap water is. I suppose this could vary from town to town.

Cool, thanks for the water info. I just got a used pressure cooker. How do you know how to cook it at 15 psi? Is the stove temp supposed to be high, low, or somewhere in between?
