England comes out of lockdown today, Wales, Scotland and N Ireland will follow in some weeks time. Given this governments love of slogans I'm surprised they didn't bring it forward to Friday. 'Freedom Friday', rolls of the tongue so much easier than 'freedom Monday' doesn't it:? I guess they didn't want to 'flabber the gast' out of their backbenchers who like to rant on about the children missing their education, as if any work gets done on the last day of term.
Just got back from the local town and happy to report that the bus company is maintaining the mask wearing protocol and I didn't see a single person in Tescos' without a mask. In the local Polish shop where I went to get a cold beer afterwards on the other hand, neither of the three customers in the shop were wearing one.
Hope the governments new reliance on people acting responsibly, as seen here...

...and wearing a mask when in crowded areas or on public transport doesn't come back and bite us in the arse with the large increase in infection we are seeing over the last couple of months.

I went to a club on Friday night. Completely packed. One chick was wearing a mask. Went to the casino Saturday night. About half masked. I’m putting all my faith in the vaccine at this point and the low case rate around here

We’re about 75% of eligible fully vaxxed in the DC area so maybe we won’t have much of a wave, but if it does happen, all the countermeasures have to be directed at the unvaccinated. Keep them out of public spaces and keep the bars open.

It's not so much that I don't have faith in the vax, I've had two shots of the Astra, so much as I don't want to risk being the one kicking myself as they insert a tube into my throat because it turns out I'm one of the minority, that for whatever reason, isn't able to produce antibodies to the virus. Considering in my more recent pre covid lifestyle (disregard any mention of my past use of gloryholes) I don't expose myself too much to human contaminations these days, continuing with a mask and social distancing is not a problem.

Did you have any side effects from shots? Chills, fever, headache or malaise? If so, you made antibodies.

I had absolutely no side effects at all apart from a slight soreness when I laid on it in bed, or inadvertently rubbed the area, for a day or two. I've had my fair share of noobs taking blood samples over the years that felt like they were drilling for friggin oil, which left a bloody great bruise, and ached more. Thankfully Both shots were administered by an actual Dr. rather than someone who'd had a crash course in giving innoculations.

AZ or Pfizer? Some docs in the US are suggesting people who didn’t get one of the mRNA vaccines get a single shot of one of them.

I had the Astra. I was willing to have the Pfizer as a second jab after they cancelled my second Astra shot twice. My nearest vaccination center was restocked for getting the youngsters vaxed with the Pfizer, due to the blood clotting scare of Astra among younger people. Would have been sods law had I picked up the virus on the much longer bus journey to the far side of town.
It seemed odd to me, and the Dr that gave me the second jab agreed (not sure if he wasn't just humouring me) that I could not have just been added to the trial that had been done in mixing vaccines, after all if I had come down with the Covid my data could have become part of the statistic of that trial. Depending what you read the efficasy of the vaccines are all pretty similar. AFAIK the UK Gov still haven't made up their minds on mixing vaxes. Maybe if boosters are deemed to be necessary later.

I’m interested in seeing that study result. If I had to speculate, there’s no reason to believe that mixing would reduce efficacy at all and could even produce better results.
The antigen for all the vaccines approved in western countries is the same, so all the difference in the vaccines is dose and the adjuvant effects.

Covid hospitalizations definitely resurging here because of delta variant and careless behavior by the unimmunized, but we are not anticipating oversaturation and since vaccination is an option there are not as many logistical difficulties. Still nobody hospitalized with with both doses of Pfizer/moderna
If you wanna feel like you're about to drown for 5 days straight I suggest you not get vaccinated.

The UK will be requiring proof of vaccination to attend nightclubs, concerts, sporting events and other places where there are crowds starting in September. There will be an app with a barcode required to enter these venues. Presumably you can also print one out. Vaccinations only. You cannot get around it by getting tested.
I’m glad to see that some governments have realized you can’t negotiate with these antivaxxers. You just gotta remove them from public life.

The UK currently has very high case numbers (will be equal to peak of the 2nd wave within a week). The UK is also lifting restrictions. Looking at the hastily drawn together graphs below, you can see why. Case numbers are up, but there's nowhere near the amount going into hospital.

Left and Right are same scale (they're just screengrabs from coronavirus.data.gov.uk)
The vaccines are doing a great job of saving lives.

Agreed. They need to sort this shit out though.
"Hundreds of people have complained on social media that they’ve been ‘pinged’ by the app despite not leaving their homes. "

Houston hospitals saw a 75% increase in hospitalizations over this past weekend
Mask mandates are coming back
So thanks a lot unvaccinated assholes for fucking things up for everyone
