How is this even possible?

I took some perfectly clean agar covered in bright white rhizomorphic growth and put in in a a grain jar I had PC'd for over 90 minutes.
I used a glove box, tons of 70% alcohol, nitrile gloves, sterile technique - the whole 9 yards.
It's been like 4 days and 1 grain in there is this green? HOW? Even if I wasn't that clean (which I was), how is just one grain getting this green this fast?

Most likely bruising. Trich needs a bit longer and would not be on just one kernel. RR

I was thinking bruising too but the color threw me off. Good to see ya RR
I've just started figuring out how greenish bruising can look sometimes. My Treasure Coast specifically always bruise really neon green at the bases left on the cakes after harvesting and it freaked me tf out at first.

I would not use that.
Hate to disagree with RR but that is not something I would even spawn. In addition the growth on the grain seems too wispy. I have more projects in the works so if it were me it would not be a big loss.
My 2cents is only based on if you are growing cubes.
If it is indeed trich you will know in a couple days. Really doubt that is brusing based on the pic.

Also seems like awful fast colonization for a wedge dropped 4 days ago to me.

It should be quickly obvious if it is mold or bruising with any visual changes in a few days. The pic is kinda blurry and they can be misleading but it does seem like considerable growth and a little grainy for 4 days.
But if it is mold it was just hidden on your agar and hadn't sporulated yet. Mold does not survive PC, you have to totally fuck up grain to get mold and it would be rainbows. Unless there was a single dry grain in there that resisted sterilization.

That jar is 100% fucked. You shud be using a SAB not a glove box.

I used an SAB and I was very careful I just don't see how in such a short period of time this green could have formed.

Are the green spots all on top? If so, your filter method is letting crap through. If they're all throughout the jar, it could be from the agar. (Probably not due to inadequate grain prep, because that would cause bacteria rather than mold.)

Was wondering if anyone was gonna catch that. Not trich, but green mold.
Got plate pics?
