thats the thing, i did have a thermometer and it read past 110 laying ont he bottom of the box. But i did have the jar raised up 1/2in by tin foil rolled up, which helped. The jar was very warm, i cant say hot, but...
Good ole B+, i hear its what most people start on. Ive been trying to keep things simple, but then again, i have over $100 in materials hahaha.
For the terranium i use a colman cooler supplied with moisture by a holmes ultrasonic humidifer, which on friday will be on a digital timer. I guess i could post a pic of the setup, but its isnt very pretty! really the filter bottles are the ugly part, they suspended tie wire and sort of dangle:)
Ill go take a pic of the puss and see what you guys say....

nonono, i bought the jars seperate as a 12-pack. I made the substrate from brown rice and vermiculite. I didnt know i could buy the jars at walmart, but i cant go thre anyway as i am a union worker:)
I steam sterilized all of the jars at once in two brownie pans coverd with foil for 1 hour. I had each pan sitting over two burners each, it worked better than i thought it would. Its very easy to do, i also used a washcloth underneath the jars to keep them from cooking too bad.
I also built my own ultra-sonic fed terranium. It stays at 75deg naturally so it should work good. Ive done quite a bit of research, and actually this is turning out to be a lot easier than people make it seem

Finaly somebody is seeing the light. If people would just follow the teks exactly, (that means no homemade changes on your first try) there would be much more success.
Good work

i cant even really say that, i even cut a couple corners and didnt pay attention to sterilizing my workarea like i could have. But the way the process is done it doesnt even really matter if there is bacteria around, its very clever;)

thatbig- haha yeah i thought it looked like a well-made substrate also, i even mixed by hand, pat on my back
Im pretty confident in the fruiting chamber. The temp stays at 75 and i know the humidity and air exchange is good, it seems pretty fail-safe with the humidifier

K, lets see if we can get the things easier to fruit. Now the main reason it takes a while to start em sometimes could be one of these.
Low light, low airexchange, and lack of substrate to colonize.
Now just about everybody get the first two right, most fuckup the last one.
People usually are doing the pf tek as they learn so when the cake is finally fully covered with myc they get all jacked up and put it in the chamber. You should wait a week. Reason the cake needs to finish colonizing the center of the cake.
Yes I know cakes can sometimes fruit with just one of these things or we wouldn't see " OH MY GOD, WHY ARE MY CAKES FRUITING IN THE JAR AND THEIR NOT DONE COLONIZING YET." posts. In most cases you need the three things.

I didnt have the jars heated above room temp for the first few days. They were actually getting down to like 60F at night. I since put them over a 40w bulb with tin foil surrounding, they stay nice and warm now. THe growth has really taken off! a couple of jars are almost half covered on the outside
I know i need to leave them a week after outside coverage, but damn thats going to be a long week:)

I once came home to fin the temperature in my incubator to be 105 degrees, needless to say I freaked. However, after bringing them inside and fixing the problem, all of my cakes are still growing very well and the outside was almost completely colonized by day 7. EQ strain is a very fast colonizer, I love it. Good job on your grow dude, this is my second and I'm constantly making improvements.
