This pasture in particular is in Cherokee. I'll give it a couple more looks and if nothing good pops up I'll get out there this fall!
I need to do some more research but I'm wondering how often people find one Pan without the other.

More from where I got the last cluster from. Took only a handful and left HUNDREDS.... Literally the largest cluster of caerulescens pins I've ever seen! One of them was an absolute chonk too. Rough estimate probably 35g-40g as it sits. Looks like things are about to explode!!!

Hell Yeah Mental those are some chunky monkeys keep up the good work🤘
As for eating Gymns chocolate is def the way to go and IMO they are pretty under rated and I have took a strong liking to them...I have a field full of cubensis and copelandia but tbh I havent stepped a foot in a field since finding this patch last fall. I do want to go forage it soon though for picture purposes but as crazy as it sounds I prefer these gymns over cubies 🤷🏼♂️

I see panaeolus antillarum growing from horse manure all the time. This is the first time I have ever seen cubes growing. Although my understanding is that cows are better for cubes as they will aggregate spores by grazing on pasture and their digestive system will not destroy them. The digestive system of horses will though, so you have to get lucky with spores landing on the manure.

Beautiful. I have to admit I thought weili and caerulescens were synonymous so I was surprised at first.

I check frequently... all year for the copes in pastures. Those antillarums will waste your time and get your hopes up. Generally, they come after and sometimes during however I have only 100% verified Oct-Nov. I have not seen them any other time in the last three years.

So psilocybe Weilii and psilocybe caerulescens are the same mushroom. There's alot of pissing matches in mycology apparently and, if I remember this correctly, apparently Paul stammets says he discovered them and named them Weilii after his best friend Dr weil (amazing guy btw), well Alan Rockefeller did the ITS sequencing in them and they were like 99% match for the caerulescens he was finding in Oaxaca, therefore the name psilocybe Weilii is a defunct name. It's still confusing as shit though cause alot if the old-school pickers still call them Weilii.

Stop making a bunch of 2 hr drives & make one big planned drive down to texas & you could probably fill a trash bag full of cubes & copes right now

The few times I have found them they have always been at the edge of a field. They don’t seem to go very far into the weeds or very far into the field.
Do you guys find these in the deep woods? I never have and Alan Rockefeller says in the Bay Area the interesting finds are never in the forest but are in very public areas
Do you find some patches are more reliable early in the season and others later?

After 4 years back in Georgia putting in 15ish hours per week hunting Weilii during season, I've gotta say (in my experience) Lute's are by far the kinder mushroom in regards to abundance/visibility, and I'm glad to see them getting some love on the forum this year. They play no games lol. I find pounds every year, sometimes unintentionally, whereas Weilii has been entirely incognito for me so far..
It's not for lack of proper searching environment or patience (I used to find loads of Ps Cyanescens when I lived in SF, tall grass, harder to spot than Weilii, etc) it just seems like a genuinely unobtainable strain for me for some reason. I hunt Cobb, Canton, Gwinnett, Cherokee, etc, every year and have never encountered a Weilii.
So, at this point I've stopped worrying about them and embraced the Gym life
Although I don't participate much, I love coming on here and seeing all you wonderful folks and your finds.
Keep up the love, the world needs it.

My finds have levels of excitement 🤣
Weilii gets me the most hype no doubt about that but I have to travel 2-3 hours to hit my honey holes to forage them and finding my gymn patch locally last fall was truly a blessing...I have took on a strong liking to them experience wise and taste wise when mixed with chocolate!!
Anyways I got to meet a fellow shroomerite from our threads today which was pretty cool and also collected another load of what was left in the patch

Rockin that Gymn Life 🤘
