Harsh approach to salvia cultivation
    #2737846 - 05/27/04 07:23 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

This summer I intend to put many of my cuttings outside in my garden and let the weak die off, and take cutting from the best ones for indoor winter growing. This must be commmon I would think?

No dont let any die.. Do not put them in direct sunlight, and water often.. And have one of those sprinklers that are just a hose with lots of pin holes in it near the plants.. Theyre a preaty strong plant. Got any cuttings to trade??

Why would you let the weak die off? asside from not having to take care of them, its stupid. All of your cuttings are from the same plant. Infact EVERYBODY's cuttings might very well be from the same plant. No reason to clean up the gene pool any :P

Magic_rah I have too many to be honest, I have cuttings after cuttings with no place to put them so Im willing to trade as long as you pay for s/h charges, msg me what you have to offer, and as for the plants all comming from one place, yes that is ture, but every great adaptation happens very slowly from one source, so i'll look for slight signs of vigerous grown in some, Perhaps I could help the weak along for the leaf harvest, but other then that, they will die off come winter and the more healthy ones I will take cuttings from, and those cuttings will become my indoor mother plants and any locals who wants them will be welcome to take them, and I'll redo this process every year. Im not expecting a winter plant or anything, but perhaps something more suited for canadian weather.
