4" sub depth is fine.
All my current bags colonizing: (lost one due to the green and three due to bacteria)

I've ran out of coir. I think I temporarily switch to straw until my coir arrives. I still have space for 46 more Bosley Bags...

Yeah it was a cross I threw together with mixed spawn. I didn't think it would take lol. Smaller than Melmak, larger than PEU and possibly leucistic?

The real question is does barley smell as delightful as oats when cooking/PC'ing?
This feed store has everything. Millet seed, sorghum seed, rye, wheat, barley, huge bags of hydrated lime, aged manure, sawdust, even sugar cane for some reason! so definitely will be checking out a few different grains in the future once my 50 lb bag of oats is depleted...or I'll just stick with oats, not sure.
Speaking of oats (not cultivation related per se so please ban me if duty mandates such action), I planted a handful of mine in this pot, 1 week later:

I need a good feed store like that I miss getting just huge bags of Milo it's such a pleasure to work with.
I used to work a farm where one of the jobs was to plant oats in 10/20 trays we had huge racks of the trays growing oats, he used it for chicken fodder. Dude had the best tasting eggs ever. I've eaten alot of farm eggs his topped them all.
