Quick update on the overlay tubs. Doing much better than I expected:

I got a tub with NSS going too at the moment and I see I am not the only one who deals with overlay with this variety.
I got a question though and I hope it's OK to ask it here. It's the first time I grow in winter and my setup has kind of changed. I can't see any of the little droplets sitting on top of the surface. Only in one little spot and that's where knotting happens. Would you guys mist? I think since I learned my stuff lots has changed and some of what I know seems to be outdated information.

It's like it grew its own casing 😄. These look like they will turn out at least as well as the others that didn't overlay, just a few days behind.
The caps are all staying tiny and not really opening. I think I'm seeing some signs of spore drop in the 2 most mature tubs but it's gonna be tough to get much. Did someone say 2nd flush is usually better? It's snake city in there.

Fuck me. My last nat tub triched out on me before first flush because I layered the coir on too thick and compressed. I had to pitch it and now I’m taking a break from cult but I’m pissed because I didn’t want to go out this way 🤬

What's the general consensus of the best casing material for this species?

Finally got my agar to grain a few days ago. Won't be long now. And leaving that agar plate alone a few days, holy cow that mycelium goes crazy.

Got this cluster from a clone. Still side pins and overall the general frustration with not understanding what I’m doing wrong when so many people seem to have no problem at all with these. I’m taking a break from cult after all these shoeboxes are done.

Lol it’s just the impossible genetics I sent you.
At this point I kinda feel like giving people the stuff I was working with is the mushroom version of those birthday candles that relight themselves. Pretty much a bad joke
I was losing my shit isolating and cloning and trying different methods to get them to fruit and then finally went back to spores and got a culture that ran with no problems right away.
I do like that cluster though, the one on the bottom left looks a lot like the original. Definitely nothing like typical natal.

Here's my results (5th tub lagging behind and not flushing quite as well). It appears the two overlay tubs actually performed the best 🤷♂️. The tub with the bruised overlay also developed heavy bruising in the fruits at maturity. The color is pretty striking. Definitely looks like they were all reaching for air.

Side by side to contrast the color of the two overlay tubs:

Clone culture. 1 to 3 spawn to sub(50/50 straw/manure) with a top layer of 1" coir. No overlay.

Great tubs man. Definitely the wild natal pheno, it looks like they might’ve started drying out a little.
That one tub looks like it’s got a black and white filter on the pic almost lol.
