Could have let them go a bit longer but I feel they're nice to harvest right now. These smell so good. Took a clone from this tub too.

Yeah, I read what you said. I've often heard people talk about superior conditions in bags which is why I brought it up and was also positing a possible explanation for the anaerobic aspect that you mentioned, I didn't say you said any of that. Sorry for not being clear.

Amazing tub as always, Josex!
A friend gifted me some good melmak genes so I am excited to finally grow it out successfully. Got some master jars going and gave them a shake today. Will hopefully be posting some tubs in a month or two.

Good conditions can be had with both.
It's just that some genetics are able to make better use of the resources available when the substrate is small like a bag vs a tub, that's why you often see better BE in bags or bottles than in tubs, and I was saying before, smaller substrates allow to pack in more substrate/more depth in relation to the smaller fruiting area, which means more resources can be utilized for fruit formation.
The relation between genetics, size of the substrate, depth, fruiting area, fruit size and BE is pretty complex, lots of things can factor in. Also feeling that my English skills are lacking to be able to explain this shit proper, like I can't quite put my thoughts into words lol

Nice Psi, these things sure are fun, liking them more than SWPE and they don't even need a casing.

I tried doing some weird shit last year with depth and surface area. It was super half assed but it seemed like if you use the same amount of spawn but a smaller surface area you just get bigger second and third flushes which makes sense.
The ultimate experiment which I need to redo is filling a foot long pipe with sub/spawn so there’s a ton of nutrients but like a square inch of surface area. When I tried before I used the tube from a roll of tin foil but the myc escaped the lining and colonized the cardboard and it didn’t work out.

My first macs! Big thanks to Quirk for the swab.

These fruited at just over two weeks after spawning to coir, which was a big surprise based on what everyone else is saying about fruiting times. This is only 1 pint in a shoebox—I spawned the other pint to the trash can because it smelled really sus. I'm also impressed with the flush given that this was just one pint!
I spawned two other shoeboxes (with full quarts) at the same time... one's just starting to pin now, and the other smells like it'll trich out at any moment. I'm definitely swabbing from this speedy batch, and I hope I can get some cleaner plates on the next run (while keeping the insanely fast fruiting speed!)

Very nice. My TP looked like regular cubes. Has anyone growing these had to work with it for them to fruit like this or do they always fruit with the PE looking pheno.

Mine came that way cold out of the gates but it was relentless to get them to fruit. I bet if you have a fast culture its probably a loser, but who knows.

I just harvested my fast-box, and the stipes were nice and dense, but there was practically no bluing on the cut ends/stumps. Anyone else experience this with melmacs?
Otherwise this makes me think that the trade-off for the quick fruiting time will be the potency, following the idea that there's a correlation between long fruiting duration and higher potency.

Sometimes mine are super light bruisers. The cut at the base almost never bruises. Still potent as hell tho. They're often kinda slow to bruise too

In my limited experience (8 ms tubs, genetics from one swab) I have yet to encounter either reversion or bruising. I've got some other Mak cultures in the works, we'll see if that changes.

Noted! Thanks for weighing in. I guess I'll just have to sample them to find out!

Is this pinning normal for Melmak or is it blobbing?

Bluing is not indicative of potency.
That's definitely blob city. Did you go thick on the top layer? Could be blobby genes.

Blob city, myc doesn't look that healthy either, could be stress induced?

I didn't add a top layer this time. My other tub looks identical to this one. The spawn used for both tubs was inoculated with the same LC.

I'm currently doing Melmak x Avery's Albino F1s in Bosley Bags. I've cloned some plate pins and turned the inoculation plates into Blenderless Liquid Inoculate, no contams so far, apparently a clean swab. Now the MS bags just keep eating the already thick pseudo casing (coir, can't find a source for peat/moss here). I'm right now patching the casing layer as soon myc starts peeking through. Keep doing it that way or patch with some non nutrious casing layer? (verm?)

Both of those varieties grow well without a casing layer. I can't imagine the cross will benefit much. My melmak pseudocasing only led to later-than-average harvest.
