Speaking of unique possibilities... just now got some T1s going of a very clean germination of Adrenognome's potential Nat x Playa cross.  Fucking stoked...  I'd love to see Alan get his hands on both additional nat phenos and playa.  Once you've smelled a tub of playa and play with those weird fuckers, you have no choice but to raise your eyebrows in suspicion.

I just realized I never uploaded any pictures of the Nats that I ran because life moves fast and my dog died that week so I was way distracted. This is the only picture of the first tub (non-overlay).

And here is some playa just for reference. I think Playa is it's own type of active.

Really want to see if these are a new species because they are so unique and smell amazing. Alaska is right, they are special. Cant wait to see a Playa Nat cross.

I like the look of your nat pheno. :awetongue:
Hoping my next nat run puts out something like that...  As for that playa I think that's maybe the fifth grow other than my own I've seen from different people/prints and am piecing together how consistent they all have been in stature/form.  Always the snakey bois.  I just stuck some wedges in a half dozen wbr half pints (lent PC out again for a few days) for a 24qt and can't wait to get some fruiting again.  Sorry to hear about your dog passing, Sock.  That hits hard.  We just lost ours very suddenly as well...

Sorry to hear about the pup Sock, that’s always hard to go through. Especially since we subject ourselves to to several times in a lifetime

When I’ve gotten crazy overlay there wasn’t much to do about it. Just wait for pins, I had one take two months

Usually I’ll start spotting them on the sides trapped under the overlay.  Or flipping the sub upside down if it starts bottom pinning works pretty well too.

Yeah he was a good pup. Thanks for the love.

AKA I had one tub of Nats that had heavy overlay and it side fruited like crazy. I thought.... Maybe the old myths about scratching are true so I used my tweezers and tore off the overlay and it fruited into a full canopy. I unfortunately did not get and pictures cause everything is getting nuts here and all. But I will run them again in a couple of weeks and see if I get overlay or not.

Did you scratch it or totally take it off?

I’ve had mixed results just peeling all the overlay off. Then the one time I didn’t wait to see what it would do before peeling it the 10% on one end I left untouched pinned all over lol.

Fuckin Nats.

Best first flush I've gotten yet, just wish they weren't so small... going to be fun to pick haha. Clone culture, uncased, no top layer again. 1:3 ratio and I really blasted them with FAE this time around.

I was waiting for these to drop spores, but now that the caps are changing color I guess it's time to pick them. Different clone, same conditions as the shoebox above

Do you guys eat your overlays? They bruise so heavily so I gave it a shot with a small tub that had a thick, soft overlay. I'm not sure how much it weighed but the whole thing made into a tea felt like a little weaker than a 2 g standard cube trip.

I think you’re the first to try it. We were talking about drying it out but nobody gave us a report

I’ve dried it out and it definitely had some bruising but never ate any.

What’s the difference between psilocybe natalensis and psilocybe cubensis var natal super strength? I have some of the latter on agar and eager to know what I should be looking forward to. The mycelium is fast and very rhizomorphic.

That’s the big mystery

In theory NSS Is a cube from natal, and natalensis is a species found there.

I can’t recall seeing any that looked like cubes though so I think it’s just because we didn’t know it was it’s own species when it first started going around.

I’m on the same page. Either they’re weird mutant cubes or someone is mislabeling natalensis prints as cube var nss because I’ve yet to see any var nss that behaves the same as a GT, OR or Fuji cubensis. All of the “cube” grows I’ve seen have some characteristics of natalensis, be it the thick rhizos, aggressive mycelium or overlay.

I’m also going back onto the train of genes being responsible for overlay, my potting soil experiments did nothing to stop the overlay and side pins. Even with liners
