I'm both totally unsurprised and absolutely grateful for the particulars here, masspan. NYC's has been playing with fire for a few years, but it was obvious to me that the pandemic, with even higher RE and asset prices combined with fewer service jobs and less human mixing, was going to make it FUBAR.

It's great for the food of people who used to be on the CIA payroll.

Lots of Central American food. A lot of ethnic food in general since there’s a lot of immigrants in the DC area.

We had golf ball sized hail here, today. It was like when the frogs fell from the sky.

Precarious is a great word. So is fragile, I'm afraid.

Murders in NYC and many other cities have skyrocketed in the past year and a half.

There's an over-done convo about low vaccination rates in Red States, but poverty is an even better predictor. Check out the NYC map on vaccination:
https://www.mind-media.com/go.php?https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/covid/covid-19-data-vaccines.page#byzip

Not only are places like Far Rockaway and Hunts Point disasters, even much of Harlem seriously lags.

NYC is in for a wild ride.

Yeah, it's all back to business as usual down here too... but things just feel different at times, and there's a lot of noticeably pissed off/confrontational people... mostly the "patriot" type...

I guess it could mostly be in my head. There's always gonna be pissed off people...

Oh, and remember when you got on my ass about me not knowing to tip hotel staff?  Well, I finally stayed in a hotel again last night, and I tipped. Redeemed!

probably won't do that

i believe there is cred to the idea that things can be too large too fail, and think NYC is part of that
