This is so true. there is west coast, south, east coast and midwest. Mid west and east coast is not the same thing. The first thing I said to myself when I read the selection was that it needs to be more specific. I like all rap about the same.

You forgot the other obvious choice.
Rap sucks.

You can't spell "crap" without "rap" It's all nonsence. Ever actueally listen to rap music? its all the same every song is the same. Jigger this, pop a cap in that, money what, pimp my hoes, women are bitches, slap my bitch up, ride with the AK, money this, bling that, Kill this guy, Rape that chick, Ghettoh fabulious, BULLSHIT
its all a bunch of jargan. And none of the songs relay any good messages with the exception of TuPac. Filling the minds of young kids with the idea that a gurl is a bitch and that she's just a hoe, and that if you don't carry a gun you're not a pimp. fuck that.

depends on the song and whos on it
sometimes i like a song just for the beat and not so much the lyrics, others i like mostly because of the lyrics...though i cant like a song at all if it has no beat
some songs are completely retarded though..but that goes for any genre
i think hiphop is better lyric wise because they flow on so many subjects..

Theres no northern rap?
Hmm, I take it you haven't heard of Swollen Members or Kardinal Offishall...or maybe its just because you spoke on something you dont have a good understanding of.
Method Man recently bigged up Northern rappers on Rap City The Basement saying "dont sleep on them Canadian rappers, they got just as much heat as anyone else".
I'd have to say Northern Rap along with East Coast is the best right now. South is way too commercial (Lil Flip, David Banner - All they talk about is material items, not to mention they have no talent at all and cannot actually produce their own rap). West Coast had it kicking in the late 90's, after Easy died and NWA broke up they sort of got weak, now they are following the commercial trail (WC, Snoop), but they still got underground rappers like Brother Lynch and Cypress Hill who possess the ability to display what real rap is all about.
Best rappers out right now? Cypress, Nas, Kanye, and... the thousands of underground rappers who dont talk about how much money they make.
Feel free to disagree with me, I dont give a shit, i've been paying attention to real rap for years.

Personally I hate Kanye, especially with this new Jesus song bull-shit. He's just trying to capitalize on all those parents who don't let their kids listen to rap because it's all violent and derogatory. He'll pull it off too. Nas is great, Cypress is good, Mos Def is excellent, Mobb Deep is awesome. I used to be a racist bitch who HATED rap, my brother used to listen to it all the time and I used to be like "All this shit sounds the same man, it's gay" but now I'm all about it. I freestyle all the time and listen to any rap I can get my hands on. To me, it has nothing to do with the intstrumentals, and everything to do with the lyrics. Check out some Mos Def, some REAL rap. Most of the people who hate rap just listen to that mainstream shit. And Mos Def is fairly mainstream, but he keeps it real. Like in his one song "Mathematics" he says:
"Sixteen ounces to a pound, twenty more to a ki A five minute sentence hearing and you're no longer free 40% of Americans own a cell phone So they can hear, everything that you say when you ain't home I guess, Michael Jackson was right, "You Are Not Alone" Rock your hardhat black cause you in the Terrordome Full of hard niggahs, large niggahs, dice tumblers Young teens and prison greens facing life numbers Crack mothers, crack babies and AIDS patients Young bloods can't spell but they could rock you in PlayStation"
It's a real good song, check it out sometime. Nas's "One Mic" is great too, nice and real.

Yes Kanye is aiming for specific groups of listeners, and sadly most people who get their first chance at the game pull off a good amount of sales because people are willing to give the new guy a chance.
I freestyle all the time to, im currently working on a local mixtape, im on the verge of making my own beats, and im aiming for a career in music, if not rapping, song writing and beat producing for rappers.
You are right, Mos Def is pretty straight forward in his raps, him and Pharoahe Monch have a great song with Nate Dogg on the chorus called "Oh No".
Nas has lots of talent, such as one mic, or on the same CD as that his song rewind where he raps about a story backwards, its crazy. I have almost all Nas's CD's, im disappointed with I am... because it sounds like it was rushed to hit the markets at a certain point in time. Mobb Deep is another group that is good, they have been rapping for I dont know how long (at least 7 years) and they have never changed their thugish street-style of rap, and Havoc is ill on the piano beats. Another good rapper is Cormega, and Jadakiss is doing alright but most of D Block is just a joke, same with the ROC.
We cant forget BIG and Pac, and the most under rated rapper of all who also fell victim of the streets... Big L, he got killed right before he was signing to Roc-A-Fella, conspiracy or what? <-- I believe the label he was signed to at the time "Flamboyant Records" had a lot to do with it, they didn't want to lose L from their roster so shit hit the fan.
When I get some of my songs ready and up on soundclick i'll post em on here if anyone is interested.
Peace..

Awesome. I like Big L a lot too, older Canibus is really hot too. I'm on soundclick all the time laying flows to the free beats they post because I don't know how to make my own that well. I'm definitely interested, PM the link or post it or something when you've got that up.
