Ah ok. I've used it as an amendment, but didn't think it would work well as a base.

Maybe I got lucky?
I've since seen other members do the same thing and get good results, yesterday I saw a post that was an entire raised bed of spent monotub coir.
I should mention I composted it for about eight months before use, really gave it time to break down. I think that was when i was still using vermiculite in my tubs as well, so that was in there.

That makes sense. I didn't let it weather and it became a soggy mess if I added too much.

Praise satan, the fungas gnats came for me too. At the time I was living in a PNW rain forest and fungus gnats were basically our town bird. I set the tubs of soil mix outside for a few months in the winter to kill off the gnats and mixed BT into the soil mix. Then I brought them inside before it got warm again. Seemed to do the trick.
I had to tape up the edges and any gaps on my monotubs with micropore tape just to keep the little fuckers out.
In current news the MOB I transplanted from the three gallon to the 65 gallon didn't even skip a beat, just kept right on growing. I love a well timed transplant

would the spent substrates from our mushroom grows be to much for the plants. like it would be to hot with all the grains composting?
i used them. like my 8lb blocks i would crumble into 30gal of soil and mix but only like 16lb of old sub. it never caused issues i dont think but when i first started i was having issues anyway. i quit using it for now , my plants are doing way better this time in happy frog soil.
i always use FFOF since i started growing pot. it has worked for seeds, clones, autos, and photos without burning them. thats my experience. dont have to feed plants for first month with it really. but i add extras in also.

If you were using just ffof with an auto how long would you wait to start using nutrients?
Mines been in it for about five weeks with no problems but I started super light feeding last week.

Roots after 5 days today on sativa photo strains, indica I didn't check but it's been way too hot the whole week so they've been hanging a bit. I'm surprised I'm even seeing roots at all after 5 days.
Spray with wettable sulphur to avoid the dreaded PM.

congrats. i love seeing the roots start. they get going fast too once they start. my water is fluctuating between 73f (cold as it will get with ice packs) up to 80f when i need to change the ice packs. i try to cycle them out thru out the day like 4 times by night time.
ive had good results just putting clippings in jiffy pellets but the cloner seems to be fastest that ive tried.
how often do you change out your water? and what do you use in it?
i use carbon filtered water drop or 2 superthrive 10ml hydrogaurd 30-40ml clonex 1/8 tsp or less of great white
seems to work good for me. last time i didnt change the water until i was done with the clones in the cloner. mines been same water the whole time this run. 8 days now

I don't change it out at all, for as long as the cuttings are in there, and I'll probably use the same water again next round.
I use NOTHING in it, it's demineralized water, so NOTHING but H2O in there. I don't use cutting powder or gel either, all I use aside from the water is clonex mist to mist the top of the cuttings once a day. Twice for the ones that are hanging cause of heat issues.
Oh and one more thing I do use: I mist with a solution of wettable sulphur to avoid getting issues with molds , rot or PM.
Looks like I'll have about a 90-95% take. Pretty dang good for 85°F all week. (not water temp, it's the ambient, temp, both roots and tops fluctuate around 85 and it never gets under 75; even at night.

Does adding stuff to the water help that much?
All of mine have just been in a jar of crazy hard tap water. When I cloned the tops of 2-3 week old plants it took over two weeks to root, but the branches from the lower mains I took right before flower rooted in six days.

I just use rooting gel and jam them in some jiffy mix or a puck. Works like a charm.

Yuuup. If I were running something larger than my 2x2 fuck-around-and-find-out tent I would absolutely be picking y'alls brain about a misting cloner, but right now just chucking some pucks in a yogurt container with a couple of holes in the lid works a treat.
So, I had a weird and questionable experience at Archive in Portland. They are the "breeders" of a lot of the clones going around Oregon right now (more like pollen chucking and selecting clones, but I digress). I asked if the blueberry clone they had was DJ Short lineage, and they said no... but that it was a pre-98 blueberry. Pre-98 is a reference to when DJ Short changed the genetic makeup of the blueberry parents in 1998, so in order for it to be pre-98 it has to be a DJ short cut. So which is it? That really made me hesitate buying from them, and ultimately I just walked out with a few pre-rolls instead of a clone or two.
I'm going to sound old, but there's nothing but pollen chuckers anymore. If all you're putting out is F1 crosses that have not been stabilized, you're a large scale pollen chucker and not a breeder. I miss a lot of the old true breeding strains that seem to be disappearing. None of this modern noise can match up to a good S.S. AK cut, or some ATF.
This is all a big roundabout ramble that is me trying to avoid dropping $100 on five-ten seeds like in the old days I feel like I could make a killing producing clones of the classics for sale in dispensaries.

Male, I thought so. Pulled it yesterday. I re-potted my other 2 into bigger pots and am hoping one is a female. I started 6 and now have 2 plants. Says I ran out of space so I'll see what's happening with pics.

There are a list of ways to help them learn more towards female. I forget what, but I know who sent it so I'll get a list of things and post it.

Here's the one I pulled. It looked pretty scraggly too.

I read all kinds of iffy stuff on how to predict sex.
Like that females tend to be shorter and bushier, the little stipules or whatever on the nodes tend to be skinny and cross each other.
The only thing that seemed somewhat logical was that stress/conditions in the first couple weeks can influence it. Apparently sex isnt set until a few weeks in.
Then one of my friends swears that fresh seeds grow way more females.
