You know what? Taking drugs actually sucks. 4

I've taken more drugs than most but, in 2019 i quit, only exceptions were to trailblaze once for MXPr in 2019 and for 3-Me-PCPy now in 2021, because I felt the need to provide impulse to the community exploration of these compounds.
Thing is though..
You have a balance in your body called homeostasis. Its chemical, its behavioral, psychological, etc it is your baseline as Shulgin called it.
If you take a drug, you introduce a substance in such a dose as to imbalance the homeostasis, preferably in a desired direction such as euphoria, introspection, visuals, you name it.
But all this is an induced imbalance, your homeostasis needs to recover from that, and it worls out throughout your organism.
What I found is that when I was in a pattern of drug use, 35 years long, i was continuously either in a drug experience or in the aftermath of one, or rather, of all of them.
What I found, when I quit everything and stayed quit or many months, my mind state, my body, it kept and keeps improving. Its subtle but unmistakable.
Drugs kept me down a bit.
I never saw it and fought it to the death but, truth be told they did, and only long after quitting brain rewiring brought to light the better sobriety that I never had access to. The drug use didnt let me.
Imagine a big gong, and every time you take a drug, you beat it. If you use drugs with some regularity, your gong is always resonating with the vibrations of several beats, the most recent ones, all the time. It is never still because you don't let it.
My life is difficult, make no mistake, but less chaotic and problematic than when I used drugs. More in harmony. If I feel strongly, it now has reasons not measured on a pocket scale.
I don't even miss it.
I loved doing drugs and now I'm loving the journey of exploring life while my brain rewires itself after 35 years after I opened the Ether bottle.
3-Me-PCPy was a lovely high, but I resented being high at all, despite it being so lovely.
So, while high and euphoric, I had no qualms with doing solubility experiments with the remainder of the gram, 198 doses, and washing them down the sink after.
Pleasant as the high was, it was quite like a vegan eating a steak: Sure, the yummy juices dribbles down his chin but its not something he wants to be doing.
On the day after there was an unrest of wanting to use. Then, it disappated, and I was glad to be rid of it.
I never thought I'd say it but; "You know what? Taking drugs actually sucks."

I agree for the most part but still use drugs I work a full time job and when I'm not on drugs I really want to abandoned society and possibly become homeless but doubt I could survive in a way that would allow me to focus full on just spiritual seeking.
Quote:
The quest for sensuality can have an enormous impact on one’s experience of this life and the next.
If one, longing for sensual pleasure, achieves it, yes, he’s enraptured at heart. The mortal gets what he wants. But if for that person —longing, desiring— the pleasures diminish, he’s shattered, as if shot with an arrow….
A man who is greedy for fields, land, gold, cattle, horses, servants, employees, women, relatives, many sensual pleasures, is overpowered with weakness and trampled by trouble, for pain invades him as water, a cracked boat. — Sn 4:1
“Now what, Mahānāma, is the allure of sensuality? These five strings of sensuality. Which five? Forms cognizable via the eye—agreeable, pleasing, charming, endearing, accompanied by sensuality, enticing. Sounds cognizable via the ear… Aromas cognizable via the nose… Flavors cognizable via the tongue… Tactile sensations cognizable via the body—agreeable, pleasing, charming, endearing, accompanied by sensuality, enticing. Now whatever pleasure or happiness arises in dependence on these five strings of sensuality, that is the allure of sensuality.

Truth be told
Drugs are good in moderation. But I think I’ve finally hit a point in life where everything would be more pleasant sober. I’m tired of chasing highs and the aftermaths of a several week(s) long benders. The last couple years seem like a blur of being high, and recovering/detoxing (more often than not)
Thanks for sharing. At least I know someone else is on my wavelength

After a 10-12 year break I do coke somewhere between once a week and once a month with my best friend and sometimes a few others. I enjoy it quite a bit and have no worries of this escalating. I do shrooms two or three times a year.

Homeostasis when it comes to the brain is an extremely malleable construct. Drugs can help shape your brain and mind to your liking. They can also do the exact opposite if you're not cautious or intentional enough with your use.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
Being sober gets so much easier once you recognize how much better you function without drugs. What I did to myself for nearly two decades is insane.

If you read trip reports from people who had been sober for a long time before tripping again, a common theme is that they wish they hadn't waited so long.
The vast majority of thoughts that go through our head are the exact same repetitive, automatic, often negative or unhelpful thoughta that went through our head the day before, and the day before that, etc.
We get stuck in ruts, put on autopilot, while our ego convinces us we're on the right track because we're "more productive" or whatever other reason.
Certain drugs have a way of shaking that all up, of showing us just how off track we've gotten, and highlighting the things in our lives that are actually important but that we've been neglecting.

I've spent two 18 month patches off drugs and alcohol and I've come to find that consuming cannabis and psychedelics regularly, while avoiding all other substances, is what I find to be my sweet spot. Sobriety is cool but I like to trip and smoke MJ for pleasure and creative purposes

I was stone cold sober for 17 years. I wish I'd not been so dogmatic about drugs. I think psychedelics are fantastic. I still don't drink... that shit is my nemesis. Shrooms!!!!

They say it's better not to try weed until you're 25 or something and your brain is fully developed.

idk about that really
the only way weed affects the brain is if ur addicted, it can wire u for addiction, but its the easiest habit to kick and large amounts are beneficial
but the process of being addicted to anything can translate into other compulsory behavior
