Finally buying a flow hood. * 1
    #27343229 - 06/10/21 04:39 PM (1 month, 21 days ago)

After years of attempting bags without a flow hood, I'm finally caving.

I'm trying to binge read, but I'd love any advice you all have.

I'm drawn to a 2x2 with a table "indent" to lower the bag. and I'm drawn to FFU's for space saving and simplicity.

Know any retailers that are good?

What else do I need to look out for? What are things I can do wrong in purchasing?

Is there a model that many here use with success?

Many thanks, T

I don't see why it wouldn't work going by the description.

Sounds like people doing bags really appreciate a larger hood. Its odd that this company triples the price to double the size.

Sorry to everyone for posting pretty much the same thing across a bunch of different threads recently but since no one's said it yet, in my opinion/experience researching for an FFU, unless you can get a decent deal on a used or local pick up flowood, ordering from China will be much cheaper. The price might be comparable if you buy a blower and filter and build it all yourself but otherwise I would 100% order from a Chinese manufacturer.

Myer's is selling a 2x4 for almost $1000 right now not even including freight shipping, and from what I can tell he simply has a good supplier in China that he gets bulk from and resells. If you have the coin to spare a Myer's unit would be really nice cause he figures out all the hard stuff and knows what he's doing but you could literally get two 2x4 units shipping included for about that price. Obviously it takes a bit more work reaching out to suppliers, making sure they're legit, waiting for shipping from China, but a little due diligence makes it very much worth it.

If you do go that route I'd message a bunch of suppliers for a quote including exactly what size you want, how many you want, and where you'll need it shipped to. Check if they'll cover all the customs and import fees (Delivered Duty Paid) or if you have to foot that. If you're in the U.S. I'm positive you can get a 2x4 shipped to you for under $700. You'd probably only save a hundred bucks or so if you went for a 2x2.

Lastly before you pay them I'd just make sure to get all the details about the product, like is it a H13 or H14 filter? Stainless steel or galvanized steel case? What's the max flow speed? Is the motor adjustable? Can they wire it for U.S. power outlets? Does it include a prefilter? And so on and so on

Best of luck!

The meyers 2x4 "hoods" are made by Clean Rooms Intl which is a USA company and they are high quality FFU and I doubt you can source that brand on alibaba...

Oh wait I know you can't because it's made in the USA.

If I could go back I would've just saved up to $800-1200 and bought a 2x4 FFU first time around. Table indent is something I intend to try when I start doing XLS bags, or bag to bag transfers, but for jar to bag I haven't found it necessary at all.

I didn't know that but it does say so right on Myer's website, that's good to know. I know he's sold Chinese units as well but I guess those were priced at $749 + freight not $969+freight.

Regardless, while you obviously can't source a Clean Rooms Intl product on Alibaba I still think you could find units of comparable quality on Alibaba at a lower price, just takes a bit of research.

Ted, I may be able to help you.

My friends put in an order for 25 FFU's from the same Chinese supplier that Myers gets his units from.

I can get one to you at a cheaper price once they arrive and we figure out shipping costs to your doorstep.

Same goes for anyone who reads this.

I actually have one of the Chinese units from Myers early days. Going strong a little over 1 year now. The fan motor was noisy for a little bit but seems to of resolved itself. Would of loved to get one of the american units but i was a little too early i guess. It has served me very well though.
