Weird PE genetics, or something I'm doing?

I've got a couple PE tubs showing some weird growth - it looks like an upside down mushroom growing out of the cap of another, or sometimes the caps just connect. I noticed this with the previous tub, same genetics.
I can go into detail if needed regarding growth parameters, but off-hand has anyone seen this before? I don't use anything out of the ordinary...alcohol, a little Lysol and bacterial wipes to clean the tub before use.
I think the spotting on the caps is from misting while the fan was going, so the drops didn't go where intended....I also use tap water so I'm sure my spray bottle gets bacterial build up every now and then.

Yea I got some of those mutants in my APE harvest, just a mutation nothing to worry about. Heres an especially weird one
It's pretty common one

Could be mutating in reaction to a little bit of bacterial blotch or "bacterial brown pit disease"

Ah interesting, it hadn't even crossed my mind that the bacterial blotch could be the reason for the mutation.

Looks like the spawn could’ve been bacterial

That would make sense - I usually just use rye but I went with a rye/wbs mix with those tubs, which I've heard gets bacteria easier if not prepared just right.
I don't remember seeing anything out of the ordinary with the spawn jars, but I certainly don't catch everything.

Thanks, they are dense indeed. Between the two tubs first flush ended up at just over 16 dried ounces. Not too shabby for a couple 56qts.
The one pictured with an upside down mushroom coming out of the top was at 15g dried.

PE genetics are weird. I usually have blob and upside down fruits on my first flushes too with PE. I think some of them look cool.
I've heard casing helps prevent blobs and mutants, or consolidation before spawning...but people seem to have different results, and some pull off really nice looking blob free flushes without doing either.
Like faht said, nice tub either way. That's a great first flush yield for two tubs.

Spots on the caps is indeed from misting. Its a good grow. Any chance you used Lysol anywhere in your growing?

I agree, I'm not very picky so I enjoy the blobs as well...although there is something satisfying about those perfect flushes.
I haven't made a flow hood yet, so I do use lysol to clear the air around my still air box when prepping grain jars, etc. I generally don't see mutations like this on other cubensis but since these are just for me I can get a little careless with my technique here and there, perhaps they caught a good blast of lysol at some point.

I've been looking for a cheap way to deal with airborne contaminants other than disinfectant spray....my house is old and drafty and full of cats that don't understand what "stay out of the kitchen for a minute" means, so until I can afford to build a flow hood it's the best way I've found to allow safe transfer in/out of my SAB.

Contrary to their advertisements, Lysol can't clean the air. If anything, it's landing on your work with bits of microscopic dust with mold and bacteria colonies. SABs work cuz the air is still, not clean.

Try out Incide. It's available at Home Depot for cheap, works really well.
Lysol in the air does next to nothing. Turn off the AC/Heat, turn off the furnace fan, do whatever you can to slow down air flow in the area. Best bet is actually to use your bathroom since it's a small area and has a countertop usually.
