Sounds like the same unfounded concerns people had going from horses and electric cars to rolling gasoline bombs.
Ok, I'll concede 2 million is an exaggeration but it's far from an "unfounded concern". What I've come to understand is that basically people don't care too much about maintaining their battery system, inspections are never carried out etc. This backs up my statement.
And this from a U.S. web page talking about the problems we've seen here. I wouldn't call the replacement of 5% of 13000 LG Chem batteries from one single installation company an unfounded concern, would you? That's enough to close the doors on most businesses if LG weren't covering the warranties and I've seen PLENTY of shit products recalled over the years with the distributor responsible declaring themselves bankrupt leaving the installation companies fixing things at their cost.
https://www.energy-storage.news/news/overheating-issues-prompt-recall-and-replacement-for-lg-chem-australia-batt
Quote:
A number of energy storage system (ESS) home batteries equipped with lithium battery cells from specific production lots produced during the period March 2017 to September 2018 “may overheat and catch fire,” a listing on consumer watchdog Product Safety Australia’s website said.
The company is also implementing a remote software upgrade to two of the RESU range units to limit charging to 90% capacity in order to lower maximum state of charge and ensure safety until they can be replaced. LG Energy Solution said it is working with the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission regarding the recall.
The US recall prompted solar and storage installer Sunrun, which offers LG Chem ESS units and Tesla Powerwalls as part of its Brightbox home solar storage solution, to start “proactively replacing batteries”. Of around 13,000 Brightbox packages installed, Sunrun said that around 5% had been affected.
Then there was also this utility scale fire in Arizona, I don't think their concerns are unfounded.

Quote:
The grid battery fire in Arizona last year ended with an explosion, but disagreement has emerged on how exactly it began.
Owner Arizona Public Service recently concluded that a defect in a single lithium-ion battery cell caused it to heat up, triggering a chain reaction that destroyed a whole rack and released gases that later exploded.
Got any friends in Michigan? Loaded question of course... but if they own these batteries and they're your friends I'd be showing them this.
https://www.cpsc.gov/Recalls/2020/lg-energy-solution-michigan-recalls-home-energy-storage-batteries-due-to-fire-hazard
Ask Google, you'll find a lot more examples to disprove your unfounded claim regarding my claim being unfounded

Short answer is they generate too much heat and keep reigniting from what I've read.
Discharged lithium ion batteries arent particularly flammable. It’s the electrolyte that burns and they can be put out with water. In a discharged battery most of the lithium has been converted to a non reactive lithium ion.
Ummmm I don't think discharged batteries are the problem.
Charged ones however... well, you get the idea.
If you have any suggestions on putting out the fires send them to Tesla as they seem to be clueless at offering any advice past letting them burn... scroll to page 12.

Like I said imagine what People's thoughts were when a big tank of gas was new technology. I bet it sounded just like your concerns.
Commercial airplanes use lithium batteries and so do some newer cars anyway

I was wondering what point you were trying to make by posting a car trunk full of bags of urine, but then I realized it must be gasoline.

I just returned from Jamaica yesterday. Covid broke out at my resort and most of the people there, including me and my wife, got infected.
The good news is that my wife and I were vaccinated, and the symptoms were like a weak cold (runny nose mainly, nothing serious, which only lasted 4-5 days).
The bad news is that I was quarantined and not allowed to return on my scheduled flight. That cost me money - to change flights, to extend pet sitter care, etc.
The good news is that my wife and I recovered quickly since we were both vaccinated, and we returned home before too long.
In interacting with others there who got Covid, it was clear that those who were vaccinated (or those who had gotten the virus before) were far better off than those who weren't.
So this leads to the political discussion of whether quarantine is warranted for people who got the vaccine, presumably to protect those at home who didn't, now that everyone in the US has had an opportunity to get a free vaccine.
Thoughts?

I also attack my side if I think they're wrong. People here get very confused by that and think it means I prefer the other side.

I'd say if you're still testing positive quarantine should definitely be mandatory. Half the country is still unvaccinated, and even the vaccinated can get sick and die as well as lead to mutations.
My mother's immunocompromised from a long intense course of chemo, she's part of a study and after 2 vaccines she still shows no antibodies or immune response. It's obviously on her and those around her to stay safe, but there are likely millions of vaccinated immunocompromised people in a similar positon that may not even realize it
