Panaeolus cinctulus?
    #27340157 - 06/08/21 02:01 PM (4 days, 7 hours ago)

Found these in a lush, swampy lawn in Michigan. Waiting for a spore print at the moment.

Looks like mostly panaeolus foenisecii and black spores lawn pans mixed in. Panaeolus cinctulus is not a grass dwelling species but there are active black spored panaeolus that grow in grass.

Foes, fimicola, active lawn pan of some sort, new species, mixed collection?
Sequencing, microscopy, and/or bioassay are your options if you want to differentiate further than panaelous sp.

I'm not calling you wrong, because obviously I came here for help, but I can't see any brown with the naked eye.

All right, sorry, that seems black. You definetely have some black spored Panaeolus in the mix. Even though I don't know where did it come from, cause all Pans in the pictures exhibit very light gills, not charcoal like they should.

Anyway select them out and those are possibly active ones. But probably can't be ided to species level without aid of microscopy or such.

No worries, I understand! The weird thing is all of the gills seem to be light in color, even the cap I took the print from.

Gills usually do start light in color, but at this stage of mushroom's life spores mature, so gill color changes to the color of the spores - it becomes charcoal black. Maybe spores are not mature yet
Definetely looks like all are foes, though.

Hard to say...Sorry again, I don't know what's going on here. Maybe mixed collection. I'm stepping out, it's not my case anyway.

The majority in that pile are panaeolus foenisecii i believe. Separate out the ones with those light, flimsy stems-- a good example is in the 3rd pic, the one with the darker stem and cap

U need to print them all. And cut some black paper to stripes and clue to white one. So that you can put the cap half on the white and half on the black part. Some foes have so dark brown spores that on white paper they seem to be black.

Alright, unfortunately when I washed them I lost too many spores to make useful spore prints. I separated the ones that looked different to me and I'm planning on returning after a good rain to collect the same ones again and hopefully learn more from there. I also forgot to mention this isn't any ordinary lawn, there is a good amount of horse and dog manure, but nothing "fresh". Farms nearby with a stream that washes "particles" down this way, I found lots of those specimens close to that stream.

ya if u print them all u will likely see some very dark brown and some jet blacks..

the first pic is of a different collection correct? as the other photos appear the stems are darker and have the white scaley meatier nature of active cinct group.. from my understanding.

best way to tell is compare brown and black spored ones and put the spores up to letter print and if isnt same as letter print its very dark brown and likely not a active pan.

the last pic i can bet produced brown spores (1 other non pan? aswell in the pic) also the pile in the 5th pic looks to be dif spec? and contains likely more foes than 'cincts'.

congrats.. i bet some of those with white feet may bruise a little for u too
