Looking to grow some gourmets for first time outdoors. I was wondering if you could suggest a good starter I am guessing oysters but not sure which kind. Looking to grow when temps are between 70-90 degrees I know it gets to hot in he summer. If you could suggest I good starter for the temperature range thank you.

Yellow oysters are far the most prolific... Damn near probably an invasive species... I've found escapees 1/4 mile from where they were cultivated that I assume got there by spores hitch hiking on shoes. The Pink oysters are the pickiest. The white wild types are also easy. Another great gormet is Wine Cap on straw or mulch in the vege garden.

Pinks and golds. Dontrefridgerate pink culture! Elm a oyster Phoenix oyster Princess oyster *I think Sporeless oysters are pretty tolerant 3015 oysters suppose to be all year. Warm shiitaki /3790 There is a heat tolerant lions mane, but my regular LM seems okay at 70, but the heat tolerant strain from Appalachian gold was cloned on a 85 degree day
That's all I'm aware of/ doing. I would be down for another warm one. I'm actually not doing Phoenix or pearl, yet. I could also get you all the cultures I have if you want
I would say the pinks are more vigorous than the golds personally. I think they are faster technically even according to stamets. But they spoil really fast and grow so fast I've found them hard to time with my others

Aloha Elma or Amycel 3015. I have grown both up to 90F...

Here is the Elma...

Bleh on the winecaps.. I grew them years ago. Fun to grow, they look beautiful, but their taste and texture leave much to be desired for me. They make "ok" mush burgers like a portobello, but their stipes/ stems are nearly inedible. Great first mush to grow though I agree with ya there. They are honestly hard to get rid of outdoors.

king stropharia only taste good if I harvest before the cap breaks away from the stipe when they're small. Otherwise I agree the taste of a regular wine cap mushroom is bleh to bad. Especially when portobello style.

I agree winecaps are more fun to grow than versatile in the kitchen- might I humbly recommend to anyone with a glut of winecaps to use them in one of the colonial 'mushroom ketchup' recipes- despite the name the sauce you end up with is basically a really complex worchesire sauce style concoction.

Regarding snails and slugs- I control them by administering a 6pk of beer every few days. Process is simple- buy a six pack of beer bottles, consume the beer in the garden, randomly scatter the bottles around on thier sides when there's just a sip left, in the middle of the next afternoon gather the bottles of drunk slugs, get another sixer and repeat as needed. Also, old towels put down at night next to the garden will capture slugs and nocturnal cut worms that i gather and relocate or destroy in the morning.

Trade having slug for being an alcoholic? Because I am sure many people here would rather be an alcoholic than have slugs!! The only problem I have with this is the part about buying a 6pk or is this the lightweight version? Step it up and buy a 12pk!!

My "I'm not an alcoholic, I'm an amateur mycologist Life Hacks" gets worse... I've decided that a really good way to get a nice heavy glass bottle for making LC's that you don't have to spend time sterilizing is to start with a bottle of vodka and empty it quickly.

Ok, you start off by saying I'm not an alcoholic. But by your own admission, you went from a 6 pack to a bottle of vodka. Admitting your an alcoholic is the 1st step to recovery!! Were here for you man!! You can do it!!
I admit that mycology sometimes drives me to want to drink. But come on man you're on a downward spiral. Have you tried the 12-step program?

I've had very good luck with lions mane here. I saw someone mention elm oyster. I've never grown those but I see em on inaturalist a lot. I'm sure you could grow a decent strain of ostreatus easily enough as well. I been seeing woodear mushrooms on inaturalist lately if you wanna get weird with it! I didn't like the texture of those things when I tried em but I bet they're fun to grow.
