Need an Expert Eye - Grow Kit Help - Day 7
    #27339684 - 06/08/21 06:40 AM (10 days, 6 hours ago)

Hi Guys,

So bought a B+ grow kit the other day after being unsuccessful with some spore prints and going too advanced too quickly, thought I'd like to experience a successful birthing as easy as possible for some mush needed motivation.

The instructions on the grow kit said to cold flush for 12 hours as soon as it arrived and then leave alone until the myc has covered the substrate. It has spent the last week in a cupboard under controlled temp of 25 Celsius. I was dumb and didn't take any photos of the kit when it arrived so don't have any photo comparisons but it doesn't appear to be growing much, with my noob knowledge I'd take a guess and say its grown as much as it can and its time to introduce FC but I'd love a second opinion on the matter from you more experienced folk. I mean it could also be dead for all I know.

Any help or advice would be welcomed.

Thanks in advance
Mush Love
ITC

You should remove the lid and place it in the filter bag.
There was a bag with the kit?
Looking bacterial already, temps could be a bit down.
That needs air now.

It came with a bag yes, just wasn't sure when to put it in the bag as the instructions said to wait until the myc has covered the substrate, so no need to wait any longer?

Edit: ok so it needs air now you say, I'll pop it in the grow bag this evening. would have helped if the intructions were clearer to be honest, I've seen bricks completely covered with myc on this sub and with the uncle bens tek you literally have a pure white brick of myc to migrate to bulk so I was kinda expecting something like that. It looks like these kits use a mix of sawdust and vermiculite. I Just hope I haven't killed it by waiting too long.

These instructions are often bad to the bone.
Some vendors mix them up from other sources with adding another poem.
So that brick should have been colonized as you got it,
just covered in verm all sides.
Vermiculite isn`t nutritive, so it doesn`t need to be colonized.
Myc will just peep through it, a white carpet isn`t to be expected here.
Place it in the bag now and remove the lid, should have been done right after soaking.
Poke some extra holes in the bag above growkit level for some passive air exchange.
These bags usually don`t provide enough.
You may take a tooth pick for this, just poke some holes round the bag.
Hope we`re right on time mate.
Good luck

Thanks mate,

I'll do that and hope for the best, I'm a little worried about poking holes in the grow bad as dont want to introduce any contam, I had a failed attempt before, gave my place a good scrub and all but you can never be too careful. If I open the bag twice per day for FAE and monitor the moisture I guess that might be a bit safer right?

Many people are afraid of this, but there`s no need to.
If you think you could get contam from the holes,
you`ll get the more from opening it.
There`s no need to get paranoid
We assume spawn to be fully colonized, so contam has a hard time
to get hands on. We all spawn open air, with trich spores all around.
If you want to be that extra careful, do it for peace of mind.
But it`s really not needed, and usually people run into fae issues with these bags.
If this won`t fruit, it was caused by the vendor.

I think you've already provided me with Peace Of Mind mate, I'll just follow what you suggest as you seem pretty confident in what you talking about. Like I said, I've got minimal XP with this so treating it as a learning experience above all. If this kit doesn't fruit I'll just look for another vendor.

Mush appreciated Goatrider

That`s what i`m doing.
It`s the same boxes vendors use.
Mine are 2100cc, yours are 1200cc i guess.
Once bought a five pack with bags (without substrate :stoned:), i like small grows.
If you zoom in, you can see the little holes i poked.

So for now, just place it in the bag and let it do its own.
Wait for about 2 weeks, if there aren`t viable changes then,
i guess it won`t produce.
But let`s wait

wow, those look amazing! well done!

yeah, its hard to see the holes if you dont know where they are, everything kinda looks like condensation, but I think I can see some around where you mentioned just above the grow line.

OK, I'll keep this thread updated to see if we can rescue my babies which are suffocating right now. Would you say its pretty easy to kill myc?

With wrong conditions it`s easy of course.
You can see the creamy appearance, that indicates bacteria.
It needs a good amount of air now.
