Help. Why may be that my Panaeolus are not pinning-fruiting and have so much yellow metabolites?
    #27335601 - 06/04/21 06:44 PM (2 years, 9 months ago)

Hello friends.

I am trying to grow some Panaeolus Cyanescens/Cambodginiensis (I'm still not sure of the variety as they were given to me just as Goliath, and I know there are goliath cambodginiensis and also cyanescens), and everything has been succesful until now.

The spawned mycelium from the jars colonized wonderfully the straw-manure mix, then I cased it with peat moss, after few days both trays had eaten most of the casing, so then I added another casing layer, and they also ate part of it and have never pinned, after like 12-14 days from the first casing.
Then the mycelium started producing a lot of mushroom pee or metabolites... There has been 1 week since the last casing and no pinning at all, just mushroom pee...

I don't know anymore what's happening... I have them in a tub in tub or tray in tub as a fruiting chamber, with water inside the tubs that cover just a little part of the trays but allow to have 24 hours the water air pumps with 1 hose in each side connected to air stones.
I have two fans on each tub, at the low part from which they draw fresh filtered in, and at the upper part, in which they draw the air/carbon dioxide out. The fans are programmed with a timer for 5 minutes 6 times a day, following some teks and advices here. Anyway, after the yellow liquid started appearing I wondered if even this was not enough and began airing manually 2-3 times a day.

My mushies still haven't pinned yet, they keep producing the yellow liquid, I don't know if I should case again with a thin layer or what should I do.

May it be that moisture is too much? May it be they need even more fresh air? May it be that the fruiting temperature is too low? They are regularly at a range of 23 C / 73.4 F to 23.7 C / 74.66 F, before they were a little more hot, but climate temperature has lowered last days and I have not wanted to add the water heaters, cause they are difficult to control, heat way too much the water and according to what I've read these temperature rates are ok for fruiting... So I don't know what to do now...
Should I raise temperature, lower moisture, maybe get the water out of the tubs, quit the air water pumps, stop automated fanning or fan even more often??? (before, the fans were automated to function 8 times a day for 7 minutes, but that just lowered he temp too much and dried the tub and mycelium a lot).

Please help, I don't wanna lost my precious mushies and all the work, time, effort and money I've put into them... I just don't know anymore what to do.

I share to you some photos of the mycelium with yellow liquid in trays and of my fruiting chambers.

Many thanks to everyone for taking the time.

My pan attempts have failed, so I won't give any advice on your cult. But you may have more luck with advice in the pan cyan megathread.

The temperature should be in the range of 27-28 g. and always stable.Fans can be turned on less frequently-for example, 2 minutes every 4 hours. The compressor must be running continuously. If these conditions are not met from the beginning of exposure to the greenhouse-the mushroom can not wait.
And yet-the fans are large and connect them to a 5 volt power supply-this will reduce the speed, too much air flow can dry out your shell.

I'm only on my second run of pans, but I got my first trays to pin by alternating a good misting and dry fresh air to help evaporate moisture from the casing layer.

Oh I see... So do you think if I add another thin moss-verm casing layer, that could help to re strenghthen them, while of course raising the temperature to 27 C, and I will reduce the time of the fans working to 2 minutes but program them each 4 hours instead (also with 5 minutes they sometimes get too much cold. So then, that should be enough, manual fanning not needed then?

As for the fans, I had them with 5 w power supply but as they are covered by polypropylene filter almost no air got in or out, so I raised to 8 wats, but maybe I should just go back to 5 w then.

I was so confused, because I've read and some people told me that fruiting temperature (even for pans) should be from 23-24 C, even lower, but now I'm sure that was too low for this tropical species... It's just that there's so much contradicting information bro! I wonder why?
I will follow your advise for sure.

By the compressor you mean the air-water pump? yes, it is 24/7 active, so I'll keep it as that... now I don't know if I can save my harvest, but I'll try. Then by having this trays in the tub with water and a compressor I don't think I need to keep misting, right? unless I see the walls and/or mycelium too dry, no?

Thanks a lot, really, I've been so worried about my poor mushies, after all the hard work, without knowing what to do.

Great!! I'm happy you've had success, also the idea of fanning after misting seems very good one, I'll try that too! So do you just have the trays ina closed space or tub in tub or monotub?
Thanks for sharing!

Also, why do you think the myc has been eating most of the casing layer? already 2 times (mix has been mostly peat moss with just enough hydrated lime to buffer and some vermiculite)... anyway, I'm planning on putting a new thin casing layer to see if that helps strengthen them and maybe they can grow, at least to some extent, should that be ok? I've already started raising the temperature to 25, and will raise it to 27 after the casing, or if you think I don't need more casing the just put them at a 27-28 range, I didn't raise all of a sudden because tey were on to low temps so didin't want to hurt them more, so opted for a gradual but quick increase, and after they reach the 27 C I'll keep them in 27-28 range.

Again, thank you bro!
