If bugs eat your shrooms, do they hallucinate?
    #2733464 - 05/26/04 07:04 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Cuz that would be a very interesting question. Maybe the psilosybian is a deterant to bugs to cause them to hallucinate or trip.

it's not a deterrant that's for sure. Almost all the Ps Subaeruginosa i've picked has been munched on by worms/bugs.

very interesting question indeed... :smirk:

Someone posted a pics of spider webs which was made when on certain substances like psylocibin, lsd, mdma.

Perhaps they're not tripping but it certainly is affecting spiders!

I wonder a bug has a mind capable of reading and interpreting the drug the way ours does.

Of course, we do have examples of animals "tripping":

1)  The reindeer in Siberia eat the fly agaric and trip.  The Sami people of that area wear red suits and get pulled over the snow by sled.  It is said that the combination of those facts, plus the trip some of these Sami's had when they drank the pee of the reindeer - would have brought about the legend of Santa Claus.

2)  In the Amazon, the Jaguars chew the Yaje vine.  The indians(Tukano) believe that the cat does this because, as they eat the vine and trip out, they notice increased awareness, and thus - feel the cat enhances it's hunting power by eating the vine and tripping.

3)  Black lemurs pass around millipedes like joints, gently holding them to their lips and giving them a gentle bite - not to kill the millipede, but just to stimilate the millipede to secrete a chemical defensive agent - which acts like a narcotic on the monkeys.  Their eyes get glazed, they drool, and they pass it around and get high and lounge for about 20 minutes until it wears off.

However, those are more sophistacted, higher levels of life.  They are mammals, and their brains are much more developed.

YET - let me point to the bees as our next reference.
Lime trees put out a sweet sap that actually ferments, becoming an alcoholic beverage for the bees.  The bees dig it, and drink up.  They get drunk, and try to fly home drunk.   Yup, they run into trees and stuff.  And when they get home to the hive, they usually crash-land.  Then they get problems.  You see, the bees have "bouncers", so to speak.  Yup.  These guards are on the lookout for other bees acting drunk and disorderly, and when they come across them - they get "bounced" from the hive, removed from the premises.  If the drunk won't go - they'll even go so far as to bite his legs off.  The drunk just might end up leg-less.

And as such, I wonder - if the bees can get drunk, then their brain is abviously high enough to work with SOME form of intoxication.  Therefore, it would not seem too far fetched to entertain the idea that other bugs could perhaps also be intoxicated, and perhaps even through the use of psychedlics.

(Ok, now I want to go get some mice and dose them...just kidding.)

I recently answered this in another post somewhere here at ht e shroomery. I posted a lengthy pictuorial call the Flies, The Shit, The worms, The ants and the spores. Showing the wqorms becoming intoxicated and the ants after cannibalizing several worms could not climb backl down post becasue the distance was off centered for them because they were high.

HEre is the post thread of this subject.

I also noted the many animals who eat psilocybine shrooms and amanita shrooms. thatw would be wild animals, not home domesticated dogs and cats who some idiots here like to get high.

yeah that's a classic. What's interesting is that the web spun on mescaline is far superior to the one which is spun on caffeine. So, what conclusion can we draw from this... - Lets all dose up on mescaline at the start of the day!!!

ANd I have the images of the spider web built on psilocybine and it was more geometrical and geodesical in shape and design then the ones that were created under the influence of LSD and Mescaline.

You can read all about them in these articles I am posting below. Go to your local University library and look them up.

Witt, Peter. 1960a. `Tangled web' helps drug testing. Medical News vol. 6(16):2.
A scientific report on the administration of psilocybin to a spider and the spiders web-building abilities while under the influence of psilocybin. For related information see Witt (1960b and Bazant? (1965).

Witt, Peter. 1960b. A biological test method for psychotropic drugs based on the web-building behavior of spiders. National Medicinal Chemical Symposium. 7Th session. Rhode Island. June 20-22. Ms.
For related data see Bazant? (1965).

Bazant?, Gabrielle. 1965. Un probl?me ?claircir. Revue de Mycologia vol. 30:116.
A male spider produces a different net structure after being fed psilocybin. For related research see Witt(1960a, 1960b). In French.

I dunno but i left a cake that had been contaminated by some sort of bacteria, and came back the next day and found ants marching back to their colony with what appeared to be mycelial growth.

Sheep eat liberty caps, horses probably do too, I wonder what their trip is like.

Ok - just HOW do you go about dosing a spider? They eat meat, and drink blood? How can you fool them to bite and suck a shroom?

(I know, it's probably injection, but a fun thought nevertheless -"Here Spidey, Spidey...I brought you a little treat...)

They are dosed with tiny needle like glass tubes which you drop the dose on the spiders.

That is how.

mj

and those studies were conducted int he 1960s. Do not know anyone anywhere currently dosing spiders ,

i bet that the psilosybian is a deterant, just to intoxicate what ever animal from eating the rest. its like its defence mecanism. so the animals diet cant consist of the same shroom. but im sure the smaller bugs might not be as affected by it, because they may not have any sensory receptors at all.
