Those are some meaty ones. The mosquitos are on another level right now they were literally swarming I was trying not to inhale them.

Since it's been raining a shitload in Houston recently, I noticed some random shrooms growing in my front yard which gave me this sudden urge to go shroom hunting in a huge field neighboring my neighborhood, so I went shroom hunting for the 1st time in 15+ years and I couldn't believe it, the 1st pos I saw had these 2 nice cubes on it and wow, that felt like a gift from the shroom gods! Haha.. I got raped by mosquitos though and the field was really flooded so I said fuggit, but at least now I have a great reason to look forward to it raining and know I can find some cubes right down the street! I went to another new field and was able to find a bunch there as well. Looks like it's gonna rain more this weekend in Houston, so woohoo!

Good stuff! I just read your beginner mushroom hunter guide and other posts but still haven't found an answer to some things. If it rains overnight, what time is the best time to go hunting? I know the chances of finding caps after it rains is far more likely, but I just don't know when the best time is that the caps will likely be at their biggest and ready to pick. Are there other important factors to keep in mind for the timing of the best time/conditions to hunt them?

I Would Start Looking 24hrs After A Good Rain & Look Multiple Days After The Rain. Pins Can Develop 16-24 Hrs After A Good Rain & Will Mature Within 24-36 Hrs, You Will Notice The Mycelium Will Send Out "Flushes" Once You Start To Find Some, You'll Key In On When They're Popping Up, It'll Become Natural.

Just Focus On Finding One. Once You Find One, You'll Start Finding More

Almost stepped on a water moccasin yesterday, it was about 4 inches away from my boot. Just before I saw the moccasin I saw a 12 point buck grazing in the field until he saw me. On my way out of the field, I heard this really deep, very loud grunt that was about 25 ft away and caught me completely off guard and made me yell HEY!, which thankfully made the momma hog and her 6 babies run away. I was just glad she didn't stand her ground and try attacking me to defend her babies. I was glad I brought a knife but I'm beginning to think I should bring a gun.

Was only able to find 1 in the 15 mins I had to hunt, but will definitely return w/ more time and since it rained again.

Wow, this weather forecast is crazy! Should be some great weather for some cubes though!

Look for thick healthy grasses(coastal Bermuda, Common carpet grass) not in standing water with plenty of cow manure. I find hay fields that have been open to cattle for awhile do best during these downpours

https://

Hay rings where the ranchers feed the cattle and corrals are also good.

For the best time to go I think the third day after a good +2” rain or after two or three >1” rains(within a couple days).

Guys, With All This Heavy Rain Were Getting, I Recommend Going & Looking About Every 24hrs Or So, The Mycelium Is Already Thriving, Once It Gets Enough Water Its Gonna Start Sending More Fruits, & It's Gotten Plenty Already

Found These This Morning, Sorry Some Of The Pics Are Blurry, It Was Hard To Focus The Camera With The Skeeters As Bad As They Were.

A Few Were Too Waterlogged & I Had To Leave Them, This Is Why I Recommend Going & Looking Frequently. I'll Be Returning In 24hrs.

This Is Gonna Be A Great Season
