sock we definitely got similar genetics. Sooo many tubs I’ve spotted the first pins from the side of the tub trapped under overlay.
That tub is awesome crack I like the black from the spores too.
It seems like these either do some weird overlay and then randomly pin strange fruits like sock just had, or canopy big ass nice mushrooms like crack and psilopsychins tubs.
Those last two pictures sum up natalensis perfectly.
Hey Aka, have you tried growing from different prints, or have all of yours been from the same one? I'm curious if you grew from a print that came from a culture that didn't overlay if you'd have a different experience.

Oh well that explains it
When I finally went back to spore I’m almost positive I used a different print than the first time. I got better results but Idk how much was the print and how much was grabbing the opposite type of growth.

Aka, ah yeah I had the same questions regarding prints vs genetics... I am wondering if my prints is just from a good lineage, or if I just chose the right mycelium. I suppose the only way to know is if I go back and start from spore again until I get a culture that overlays. I'll probably just stick to the clones I took!
Here is my second flush coming in:

I don’t have the space to spawn this yet. How long will it sit for? Maybe I should jar fruit it?

Pretty nice size NSS thirdish flush with flipped substrate. If it's not producing lots of smaller fruits it's producing less with larger fruits.

My Nats are looking mighty fine this morning and ready for harvest! I’m thinking I might take some prints for a lil giveaway too...

Here is another shoebox that will be ready in a couple days:

I had to take a break from myco a while ago, because I thougt I may be moving in the somewhat near future (still might, but less likely), but you guys are seriously making me consider dusting off my nat prints.
One little project wouldn't be too bad....

Here is another set of photos of that same shoebox plus a second one right before harvest. This is the second flush that I cased with potting soil after I harvest the first flush. Quite the spore drop since this morning! Side pins are kinda a mess, next time I’ll be using a liner.

Damn so potting soil it is then huh? Think it would do well to case it with soil before the first flush too?

Yes, I absolutely think it would do well before the first flush. I would’ve done that, but I was out of town when my shoeboxes started to pin so I had to roll with it and fruit them uncased.
Here is my plan for my next run: 1. Use a cloned culture 2. 3:1 CV to oat spawn 3. Use a trash bag liner in my tubs to reduce side pins 4. Case with 1/4” untreated potting soil after fully colonized before first flush
I’m very happy with how this first batch turned out, but I think it will be even better next time!

Double liners work better. I never had a side pin using double liners. With just one there is always the risk that it can get stuck on the tub/tray. When it's double, one sticks to the tub and one on the sub.

Word, I have only ever used double liners and find they work great. After a long time of going liner-less I switched on my last mono grow and I *love* them. They just make harvest and cleanup so much easier. And no more gnarled pins covered in coir/casing!

It's so relieving seeing them pop through all that madness lol. Nice. You guys are fucking smoking these nat grows btw. Yeah buddy. Soooooooo glad to be back While I was gone I had to miss harvesting my first nat grows. Luckily my wife not only harvested them for me, but broke out my DSLR for photos. I'm quite proud of her.
***Edit: for historical accuracy/context: I looked through my notes carefully and deduced that the cube-y box that was formerly the 2nd picture here wasn't nat. Mislabeled. I think it was a Syzygy clone. Either way I removed the photo. ***
Sampled a gram of the first box pictured super early this morning and got much more than I bargained for. Wow...
