i took off all the tape from the remaining jars tonite, and loosened the lids, i'll updat this thread in a week or two to let you know how it went. peace

thnx for reply puscle, i think maybe its that they need air too, but still it is crazy wierd that they did this, but considering they all did it, one specific thing must be the culprit. I use tap water, but its well water, not city. i know for a fact that they are not gettin any outside air, cuase the jars rubber seal kinda melts on a tiny bit on inside and lids are sealed tight. but i thought that they were not supposed to get any outside air cause of contamination problems. Im going to take off tape tonite and see if maybe they start growin again. but if it was lack of air, then wouldnt the cakes that i birthed grow??? cause they sure as hell didnt do a damn thing. thnx again.

Jars need some air exchange to colonize. That`s why we do the lids upside down. Anywho, good luck, and will look forward to your update.

sounds like the tape is you biggest immediate problem, removing it was step in right direction.

dear serpent,
u know, ive never thought that i was cooking the brown rice too much, i guess it could be an issue-maybe that is causing my decreased growth, but i doubt it. It's a steamer so it only gets hot enough to boil water, when the jars come out after an hour or so, they are not too hot, so i doubt that the steamer is cooking them, as for being puffy, i dont think ive ever noticed that, but i really havent paid attention--next time i make a batch ill let u know whether the rice looks cooked or not. Peace

One detail has me thinking something other than air is at play, if the cakes are packed too tight they would leave this excess water and act like the cake had not enough moisture in them......

I would suggest also with the birthed cakes that haven't done anything to try shocking them in the fridge for about 8 hours..........

ok everyone, its been about a week since i removed the tape and it there is a definite improvement. All the cakes are starting to finish colonizing and are clouding up, so I definitely think the air was the problem. Though I think that two month lull in oxygen hurt them cause they are definitely growing slower than they should. Thanks again, peace
