I don't talk to anyone IRL about cult so I'm sure I mispronounce a lot of shit. I just learned agar is "A-ger" instead of "ah-gar"... I like mine better
Edit: watch from 2:10 to 2:30 for pronunciation on pyslocybin and psilocybe... why are they so different? I kinda hate how he says psilocybe lol

I say agar so it rhymes with rag. I refuse to say A-gar.
I think there’s only one way for coir, “core”. Who knows.
It is weird how psilocybin and psilocybe are practically the same word but said so differently.

I've always heard it pronounced "core" and always pronounced it that way myself.
I say who cares how you pronounce it as long as you spell it correctly

I ain't going there. Because I looked it up and found it spelled out both ways. Poe-tay-toe, Pah-tah-toe. And, uhm, "kwaa" for "coir".
On something unrelated, can somebody give me a quick description of standard simmer/boil/dry prep for wheat as I've never used that and want to compare it to the two in-jar methods I have used for some tests ('cause I'm curious and want to find out if there's any difference). TIA.

Yeah that's what I mean - how long is that exactly? A half hour?
If I run a comparison I don't want people going "oh you did it wrong". It all sounds like such a PITA, I wanna see if there's any difference in colonization times and efficiency...

If you're boiling them at all you're already ahead of the game. University labs literally just add some water to dry berries and pressure cook as is. No boiling, no washing,

how long is a piece of string? It depends on a lot of things, a cauldron a a 300kbtu burner starting from cold water may need so and so time but a crab pot on a stove top night need no boiling but only bringing it up to simmer because it takes so long. That's why I'm on that no prep water and grain train. 40% total weight of water worked good I'm trying 42-45% next round. (for wheat in bags, millet likes about 36-37% in bags)

I've done it that way in the past and it gets a lot of burst kernels and clumping as well as more bacterial depending on the grain. My standard method is to measure out the grain into jars, soak overnight, rinse in the jars with a perforated lid, top up as needed for moisture % and pc. That works for rye but with wheat they get a little too wet. I didn't like the looks of the last wheat this way so I thought I'd give the boil/dry/pc method a go and compare all three heads up with the same iso melmack culture for fun. I can make up a screen and do some fanning/toweling if that's what it takes.

Sounds like a fun project. As you know just pinch the grains every so often and pretend you are Emeril in the kitchen Bam! No set time IME. The grain matters not the time so just pay attention to the grain. If you are only cooking it based on a set time there is bound to be failures when one of the parameters changes but if you just test your grain along the way you will good always.
I am not personally having the problem of excessive bacteria with no prep wheat or others, just had it too dry last time. There is certainly a lot of clumping and some burst grain, but I use bags and after mixing up its fine. I don't find any trouble from burst grain.

That's pretty much what I understood, so no set time and temp. I'm more like channeling Julia Child on this one - "Gonna get out my BIG knife!"
OK. Cook, sample, test, cook, sample, test. Looking for the kernel being done. Sounds right.
Bacterial with low prep method IME goes along with dirty grain with lots of endospores. The last bunch of rye I did all went bacterial and the rinse water was really loaded with crap from a local organic store. Went with the hard winter wheat which I've used in years past though I like rye better when it's good. The burst grains never seemed to bother much actually, cooked is cooked...
Too dry, too wet, looking for the goldilocks prep.

Honestly primal i think you'll be fine doing wheat berries the same as rrs rye prep. I used wheat berries twice and i just ran the same 10 minute boil drain and dry and they were basically no different than rye.

Thanks, but I always have been OK doing the prep, but when I did wheat before it was just dry+water+pc, so...
What happened (cue brutal honesty) is that I picked up the wheat after the rye jars stalled, and did the usual soak-overnight with the wheat berries, they retained too much water compared to rye. When I pc'd them it was brutal looking. But I shook them up a couple of times, and bye the next day (THIS IS THE KEY) they had sucked up most all of the water and turned into grain-that-I-like (see pic). If I was going to go straight from pc to innoc without a couple days of, uhm, consolidation I'd be concerned about their state, but not now.
So I did a version of the old dry+water+pc, which works like it used to, and then I though, well if I tried some boil/dry/pc as well I could run them against each other.
And might even learn something.
wheat looking good:

I pour 3 full qts of berries into a stock pot filled pretty full with warm water. I turn up the heat almost all the way on my electric stove, and let it do its thing for about 30 min. I then pic a spoon full of berries (not completely out of the water cuz it's easier to see into them under water) and look at them to see if they are cooked all the way through. Meaning, there shud be no whitish opakeness in the center. When the cell walls of plant tissues are broken and filled with water, it will take on an almost translucent property. Once they're cooked (bout 40min) i drain them in a colander and pour them out on my counter with a fan blowing on high over them. Takes about 1.5hrs to dry to the sweet spot. I then load and PC for 2hrs. After removing from heat i let sit till the pressure drops to zero, remove pc lid, anx immediately tighten all jar lids b4 i remove them. Once they're removed, i remove the foil and give a shake. Will be completely cool with less moisture nxt day.

Hallefuckinlujah. I hope.
Lots going on today...
I think I finally got a hopeful start on B+ colonizing oats :
closeup jar 1:
jar 2:
I'm colonizing also 7 McKennai jars. I expect to lose one because the fucking top fell off. Don't ask! All 7 are showing tomentose rather than rhizomorphic growth. I'll be patient. Pics tomorrow. Maybe.
Especially because...2nd flush first pinned 3-days ago... PF TEK as something to do for a relatively quick grow while fucking with all the other stuff:

Oh yeah. Also made 2000mL LEMA[w 1 g peptone per 400 mL water] and "edited" a 1/2 boiled away grain water agar with 200 mL H2O + 4g agar + 4g LME. And then 4 tall 1/2-pint jars of LC LME broth. Got them all PCd.
I covered 10 opened quarts of varying bacterial oats in prepped coir and both varieties, GT snd Malabar, are in a monotub.
And made some "little bit o' this; little bit o' that" sub in some WM quart jars for a Bottle TEK.
Will the oats/coir/cst food/brf mix keep for the 2-3 weeks in the fridge to get a LC together? Or should I just throw agar wedges into the jars. In the morning, I'm going to run those jars at 16PSI for 2.2 hours , along with some BRF pucks I'm making to be the bottom 1/4-1/3 of a couple of quart jars for the Bottle Tek.
Maybe I'll nocc the last prepped 7 jars of oats RN,

Anybody got input?
