Q about nutritional yeast
    #713375 - 06/30/02 01:58 PM (21 years, 9 months ago)

i have seen some things here and @ mycotopia about nutritional yeast. People use it in liquid cultures, and I even read something about putting it in PF cakes. What is it used for, how is it used and has anyone had good results?

I’ve just started using it in my agar, 10g LME, 10g AA, 1g nute yeast, 500ml tap water. The first time I did it I thought it f’d up because the yeast looked like it was a caramelized ring at the bottom of my media bottle. Turns out it had just settled and it mixed up nicely when reheated for pouring plates. I’m getting good growth on those plates btw. My last post in “Getting Started” has a pic, plate had a bacterial contam but I don’t think that’s because of the yeast. Plates aren’t as clear and clean looking as plain lme and aa but the results seem worth it. IMO and with my limited experience.

You should try it out! It’s cheap and easy to work with.

I've read, as often happens, conflicting claims. I am actually about to PC the 11th jar that was left out of the PC yesterday. I akso have a couple of jars a oat, coir, verm, brf mix to experiement with a first Bottle TEK.

Speaking of which and while you're around, lemme ask: can I nocc for the Bottle TEK and BRF Puck TEK with agar wedges? I have not gotten into LC. but have a big pile of seemingly very clean plates.

Yeast gang for life. For whatever reason 10g/10g/500ml made my myc weak. I upped the LME by 5g and added 1g yeast, now it's great.

Damn, 15g LME is heavy for 500ml.
If it works, it works

I'm convinced the LME I got locally is "weak" or something... I see people like D3 have crazy growth on 10g/10g but mine was bunk. I ordered some on amazon for my new lab, the kind I've seen some people post, so I'm gonna try to go lower on my next batch.
