patching
    #2732088 - 05/26/04 02:24 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

my buddy couldnt really find an answer to this question... he wanted to know if he should patch while the casing is in teh fruting chamber to prevent overlay? if he did this would this slow pinning down, or merely protect the myc

thanks

Patching just ensures that all the mycelium comes up evenly so you get an even pinset. You should patch the first few spots of mycelium that come up until it's all coming up evenly, then initiate pinning.

When you patch it is to slow the growth of some aggresive mycelium. You want to patch until you see the mycelium coming through the casing evenly through-out.

yes that has been accomplished. although, wouldnt patching while in the fruiting chamber reduce the risk of overlay

nope, no signs of pins yet... it was somewhat cold shocked for 2 days in about 45 degrees, now its in the fruiting chamber at about 65-70 and its been there for a day and no signs yet

why do you have to cold shock for so long?

also, does higher fruiting temps cause pinning to take long, thus the need for a kick start?

so, while the mycelia is growing, could you patch forever and just keep growing mycelia, or is there a limit?

I wish psychedelic mushrooms were legal, because I would like to indulge in this amazing fruit of the earth. Unfortunately, I can only learn about this interesting hobby, and cultivate legal mushrooms.

This casing needs some serious Patching VVVV

Lightly cover these aggressive spots to look like this VVV

Keep misting/humidifying/incubating/patching/70'f temp, untill you see it coming through like thisVVVVVV

Then introduce light/reduce c02,increase o2,drop humidity to 90% and you get something like thisVVVV

Hope that helps ya!

you have roughly described the idea of grain to grain transfers
do a search and i'm sure you'll find plenty of information on it
you can't keep doing it forever but
Quote:

Stamets said::
One petri dish [or in your case brf jar] can innoculate ten jars which can innoculate 100 jars which can innoculate 1000 jars
TMC fig 55

strain degradation is supposed to set in around the third generation...
the procedure requires a lot of attention to sterility, etc.
i recommend that you buy Stamets The Mushroom Cultivator
or just read up a lot on the boards and all the FAQS
