Ain’t gonna lie, it certainly crossed my mind to bring him home with me. My good friends mom had one that she kept as a pet when I was younger and it was really cool. It would fly off for a while hunting food and always come back to her at night through her window. Hers never learn to talk but i’ve seen others that could.

This guy had a sibling hanging out close by on a branch and didn’t seem hurt so I figure it’s best to let them live their lives unimpeded. But yah Shroomhunts, I couldn’t resist and did give him a little head schratch before I went on my way.

Me and the minime went snake hunting yesterday and found a gorgeous black rat snake! She's my fearless hunter for sure.
Oh I want to add, I generally don't neck snakes but this one was hella bitey and I didn't want my little girl getting bit. I assure you I'm using a good technique and have almost no pressure other than to keep the snake in my fingers. Just want everyone to know the snake is in no danger or harm for those who don't know these things.

Sphyrapicus varius (Yellow-bellied sapsucker) nest!
Dad's home with take-out:

This little one is enjoying the view:

That's a Phellinus sp. (tremulae or igniarius) on a Bigtooth Aspen (Populus grandidentata). Typical nesting habitat as the Phellinus weakens the wood and allows for easier excavation.

Great photo of that sapsucker raffib, I love how it’s nest has a mushroom roof!

Decided to go check on my crow buddies and they’re in the same spot as yesterday. Give head to scratches to one trying to make friends and went on my way. Maybe I’ll bring them a little something to snack on tomorrow if there still around, anybody know what fledgling crows normally eat in the wild? Worms, bugs, or mice I’m assuming?

@Icyurmt, from allaboutbirds.org: "American Crows eat a vast array of foods, including grains, seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, and many kinds of small animals such as earthworms and mice. They eat many insects, including some crop pests, and also eat aquatic animals such as fish, young turtles, crayfish, mussels, and clams. A frequent nest predator, the American Crow eats the eggs and nestlings of many species including sparrows, robins, jays, terns, loons, and eiders. Also eats carrion and garbage." Sounds like they'll eat anything!

Looking at that toad picture I'm wondering if some mycelium grew on it this winter! Could be cobwebs, I suppose.

Thanks nitro! He's literally a dog without legs, head scratches and all. Soon as the kids get big enough to not be food items me and the wifey are getting a Burmese python. I've got 2 snakes, 3 bearded dragons, a crested gecko, a ferret, a cat, and 6 kids between me and my girl hahaha I run a damn zoo!

Oh wow so harmless. I need to learn to ID these guys. I mistake the venomous snakes with harmless ones and vise versa.
