Timers can be bought anywhere. Drugstores, wal-mart, hardware stores. But if you are in amsterdam I don't know. How big is your terrarium? Do you have casings? If your doing cakes then an air pump isn't necessary. You can propably leave it on all day depending on how big your terrarium is. If you need extra humidity you can fill up a pie tin w/ perlite or fill up a panty HOE (those see through polyester leggings that females wear) with perlite and hang it somewhere in the good ole terrarium.

does he want to leave it on all day or would that be bad. It would be hard for him to turn it off and on because he has a full time job and he has no idea where he could buy timers.

My friend is using cakes. He is planning on puting pelit on the bottom of his chamber for humity. His chamber is 22 1/2" x 16 1/2" x 11" (LxWxH). If he doesn't need a air pump for cakes would fanning it twice a day be enough?

Fanning it once a day would be enough for cakes w/ perlite. Infact the air pump might be detrimental b/c it might lower the humidity too much. If you fan twice a day you might want to spray the sides of the terrarium every few days.
