This Is A Thread Specifically For Any Active Species Found In Texas During The 2021 Season. Post As Many Pics As You Want, Any Information You'd Like To Share About Them, Etc...
Please Do Not Request For An ID In This Thread, Make Your Own Post In The MH&I Forum. Please, No Arguing, No Off Topic Discussion. I Would Like To Keep This Thread On Topic & Keep It From Getting Filled Up With Nonsense. Thank You
Went For A Look Early This Morning, It's Still Raining On & Off Around Here (Houston Area), Humidity Is High, Temps Are Perfect
Psilocybe Cubensis
All Immature Specimens Were Left. I Will Return in 24-30 Hrs To Collect Them Matured.
Panaeolus Papilionaceus On Left, Panaeolus Antillarum On Right
Waterlogged Panaeolus Antillarum
Mystery Waterlogged Panaeolus
I Also Found A Couple Panaeolus Copelandia Cyanescens But There Were So Many Different Panaeolus Sp All Over The Place That I Didn't Take Pictures. At First I Thought The Antillarum Pictured Were Cyanescens, But They Didn't Bruise Bluish. I've Found About 10 Copes So Far This Season But Haven t Taken Any Pics. There Will Be More To Come Though, Hopefully

Nice mushrooms
I just love how all the cows seem to look at you in the pic where you're holding one in the air, almost as like: bruh what dafuq are you doing ?!? Or maybe: bruh leave something behind for us to eat...
I'm in the wrong climate for hunting cubensis, but I do wonder, are these wild cubes more potent than cultivated ones ? How often do you find them infested with maggots, larvae or such ?

They are no harder than cubensis to grow, they just do better with a higher humidity 80-95% where cubes can stand a wider range of humidity, but will rot easily when then humidity is above 90%

Appreciate It Renegade Yeah Those Cows Are A Trip Lol, This Particular Field Is A Big One, Sometimes I See The Cows, Sometimes I Don't, But When I Do I Always Hold Up A Shroom So They'll Know Why Im Out There.
They Never Seem To Really Care Unless It's A Momma With Babies. I've Had One Charge Me Before, I Got Behind Some Trees & She Finally Left Me Alone.
The Ones That I've Cultivated Before Were More Potent Than These Wild Cubes Are, However I Find That It All Depends On Genetics. I've Had Other People's Cultivated Cubes That Were Less Potent Than The Wild Cubes.
The Wild Ones Vary In Potency. I Could Find A Big Cube, Dry It Out & Let's Say It Weighed 2 Grams Dry. Then I Find A Few Smaller Cubes, Dry Them Out & They Weigh The Same Amount Altogether. Either Dose Could Be More Potent Than The Other From My Experience, Even Though They Are The Same Dry Weight, You Never Know. So I Believe The Same Goes For Cultivated Cubes.
As For Bugs, Maggots, & Larvae, They Are Very Present. Every Cube Found In The Wild Will Have Some Kind Of Bug Or Parasite Inside, Even If You Can't See Them, They Are There. Microscopic Bugs Love Cubes. So Do Snails. I Leave The Ones That Are Too Badly Eaten, If It's Just A Small Bite, Then I Would Collect It, Just Depends On The Overall Condition.
Drying Them 100% Cracker Dry Will Rid Them Of Any Bugs Or Larvae. They Will Either Crawl Out Or Die, Since They Are There For The Water & The Water Is Drying Up. Any Bacteria That Survives The Drying Process Can Be Killed By Making Tea.

Potency varies from one mushroom to another regardless of being wild or cultivated. That's why I dry them completely, break them up up, mix thoroughly together and then weigh my doses for better consistency in potency or some will get higher than others or some may get nothing when sharing with others.

I Also Recommend This, You Can Even Put The Mix In Capsules

Remember, the more you break down the material, the faster the active properties will degrade, I recommend drying thoroughly and storing whole in a dark space that doesn't experience wide temperature fluctuations or exposed to high or low temperatures. Freezing will degrade active indoles fastest from what I have read.

The myth that I’ve always heard was the colder the temp the more potent the shroom. I’ve been told this by a few people including my dad. He said shrooms are always better in the winter and i believe him considering the hardest I’ve tripped on just a hand full was in December.

Perhaps of the colder weather they need more time to mature, so they build more psilocybin meanwhile... Just speculating, if in the first place cold cubes really are more potent as you claim.

That's when they are growing, storage is a different story.
Edit: It's not a myth from my experience!!!

I'm curious what the substrate temperature is, ground temperature here was 74°f last time I checked on the 22nd. This is from a raised flower bed consisting of horse poo compost from stables. last rain was approximately 10 days ago, but humidity has been up in the 70's-80's.
This is from 3wks earlier in the horse pasture, Air temperatures were much cooler during the day and evening high 72°f lows 55°f, it had been raining for 2 days, continuous light to heavy down pours. The ground temperature was in the low 60s. It's going to be hot and dry this week so the ground temperature should come up. I'm trying to see if there's a sweet spot for substrate temperature, air temperature, humidity and eventually I want to see if can measure water content in the substrate to see at what point fruiting my be triggered by evaporation or if evaporation plays a role in determining when knotting occurs. I also am trying to devise a plan for observing mycelium in wild conditions, It's a bold plan for an amateur such as myself but it will be a learning experience and that's what I'm looking for anyway.

Figured I Might As Well Change The Title, So Others Can Show Their Cope Finds Along With The Cube Finds. Found Some Boomers This Morning
Psilocybe Cubensis
Panaeolus (Copelandia) Cyanescens
The Damn Skeeters Were Swarming By The Millions, I Have To Wear A Mosquito Head Net While Hunting, & I Gotta Buy Some More Deet Because I Ran Out This Morning. I Couldn't Check The Entire Field Because They Were So Bad. They Were Really Bad In The Compost Piles Area.
