Shroomery mental health problems

I haven’t been around long, but I’ve seen a bunch of posts from people talking about their mental health issues. Do you think these problems are the result of shroom use or is the shroom use a form of self-medication for these people?
I don’t want to develop mental problems, scares me a little

Myself, one of my best friends, 2 of my cousins and multiple other people I know personally, have mental health problems and even struggle with suicidal thoughts. I’m the only one that takes psychedelics. They can exacerbate issues if you already have them, or cause issues to come to light that mayve been dormant per se. I’ve never known anyone personally that’s gotten depression issues strictly from psychs. With that being said, it’s not out of the realm of possibilities.

What brought you to the shroomery in the first place?
You may want to read this paper.

Mental health issues are endemic in todays world man; it's just that it's still very much taboo to discuss them in most places/environments, and being generally outsiders here in this community, many of us are at peace with discussing issues with our mental health. Personally I think it's a great thing to openly discuss them - and one of the greatest tragedies facing our species/culture that we don't openly discuss such things - for there is not a single human that ever existed that will have had 'perfect' mental health their entire lives. It's just the nature of being human.
In extreme cases I think that a bad psychedelic trip can induce PTSD or uncover underlying issues, but that's very rare and generally a good thing if it happens too - the bad trips teach us the most - and if we've got shit that needs working on, wouldn't we want it to become clear what it is?
Don't get swept up by the bullshit fear they've fed you your whole life. Stick around and learn to think clearly, for yourself.
-------------------- Let it be seen that you are nothing. And in knowing that you are nothing... there is nothing to lose, there is nothing to gain. What can happen to you? Something can happen to the body, but it will either heal or it won't. What's the big deal? Let life knock you to bits. Let life take you apart. Let life destroy you. It will only destroy what you are not. --Jac O'keeffe

Shrooms have a medical attraction for helping to treat things like depression. That brings some people here to talk about mental health and/or shrooms, so what you're seeing is an interest in mental health and shrooms. It's not a mental health issue that arises from using shrooms.

I guess I should've asked if you were interested in mushrooms for recreation or for their medical value.
The link I provided yesterday https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0063972 is about a large study showing that use of psychedelics does not seem to correlate with a higher incidence of mental health problems.
tldr
Results
"21,967 respondents (13.4% weighted) reported lifetime psychedelic use. There were no significant associations between lifetime use of any psychedelics, lifetime use of specific psychedelics (LSD, psilocybin, mescaline, peyote), or past year use of LSD and increased rate of any of the mental health outcomes. Rather, in several cases psychedelic use was associated with lower rate of mental health problems."

Most people (a ton) come here hoping mushrooms and psychedelics will be the solution to their mental health issues, so naturally we have a ton of people with mental health issues. They came that way hoping we'd be able to help them, and we can (to some extent anyway). LSD even had good outcomes in treating schizophrenia back in the 50s and 60s.

Yeah, for some ppl it is the rescue. However, if someone still search for traditional help click here to see the list of clinics that can help you. Hope everyone 'll find the best way to relief.

I've always had depression but now I've got anxiety too..fun times. I had a bereavement of a close family member at the beginning of the year so that is mainly the issue. Then I took some shrooms even though I knew it could be a bad idea. I figured I'll never feel happy again so might as well take them. I didn't have a terrible trip but wasn't pleasant and since then I've kinda been struggling with existential crisis and thinking about the planet and space etc. (not in a good way).
I have to be careful with drugs as my brother has Schizophrenia and reacts badly to any substance especially alcohol. I worry about losing my mind these days and I'm unsure if I'll ever even try shrooms again. It's depressing as I was so happy to find them in the first place and so hopeful I'd have a great trip.
I'm kind of a control freak and quite sensitive and vulnerable so it might just be I can't handle any substances either. I think my fear is mainly driving these feelings but I don't want to risk screwing my mind up completely.

Oh and part of it might be from remembering what it felt like tripping which was "oh shit, I'm fucked in the head and everyone else in the world right now is normal" that kind of carried on to regular life where I go through periods of thinking I'm losing it. It's just me being weak and fearing losing control though and getting myself worked up into a panic. Obviously there are some drawbacks of taking psychedelics for some people. I don't think I'm strong enough to brush off a bad trip like other people can.
