The jars came out of the PC looking really good and the large majority of the clumps busted up with a couple quick thumps. Next time I do this I'll do 1.5 cups per jar with .75 cups water because these jars are barely half full. They'd be perfect receiving jars but they're definitely short of a myco-quart by about 20% so I may actually need more than the 20 jars I had planned on.
Still beats cleaning, boiling and drying oats though!

Millet is so small that even a half quart of spawn will rip through sub at the same rate as a full quart of rye/oats/ etc. Millet might be more expensive, but I feel like a little goes a long way with each jar.

That makes sense. Do you think I should use like 1.5 jars instead of 1 to make up for having less spawn/nutrients in the substrate when I spawn or am I just way overthinking things? Almost certainly just overthinking things, as usual

cool, creepyunc. i just pulled 10 jars out of the 75x. i'm telling you nothing beats this for easy. 2 smacks on the palm couple of shakes. ready to rock. bust it up as soon as you can handle the jars.

I just treat em like myco quarts and i'm happy., but i ain't no cult wizard,. Yet.
FOOT, do not put 1.5 cups in instead. It gets too full, can't break em up easily at all. 1.25 cups is the maximum millet i would use in this TEK and i didn't like that much either. Millet colonies crazy quick compared to oats. I'd love a way to do this TEK with 3 quarts of millet in bags. I assume the water would be 1.5 quarts. Unfortunately, that shit will so definitely find its way out of the bag.
I run oats for bags. I just found out that soft white wheat is $13 for a bushel [~60 lbs] plus--fuck me--shipping....gonna try that next.

I currently use 500ml of millet to 200ml water in a 1L jar. Makes them a bit wetter which I prefer.

1.5 cups gave me exactly what I expect as far as volume of spawn in a myco quart. I did have difficulty breaking it up, but I attributed that to not having the jars all the way out of the water.

I've got 7 jars of 1.25 cups of millet with 150ml water in the PC right now so we'll see how it turns out. They're all the way out of the water and my last jars turned out really well so I'm expecting these will as well, I just want more in my jars.
Thanks for the TEK Crak!

I feel like now I'm going to need to get some millet and test how well this works.

Not trying to steal/derail/discredit this TEK, or anything that could be conceived as such, but I just took my jars out of the PC and I like them much better at 1.25 cups millet with 150ml water. That's the same ratio as in the OP just scaled up to give me more grain per jar.
Assuming my millet performs well this is undoubtedly my grain prep TEK moving forward. Thanks crack!

I've been using this with some success over the last few weeks.
I've found that 275g of millet to 150g of water is best.
I'm also breaking the rules and doing it in my instant pot with about an inch of water at the bottom of the jars. I don't have issues with clumping.
Initially, I used hulled millet for human consumption, that just turned into porridge,

I know this will depend on your brand of millet but I don't even bother measuring this anymore. Wide mouth quarts. Millet to 300 ML line Water to fill to 400 ML line. PC 90 Minutes.
I did the same as several other people in this thread and scaled up the ratios. Do not let these cool overnight or you will have a hell of a time breaking up the clumps.

Any sense in adding a little gypsum to help with the clumps?

Somewhere a few pages back in this thread it was mentioned by one user, but the general consensus seems to be breaking up the clumps as soon as you can handle the jars.
I have 20lbs of gypsum sitting in the garage though, I might toss some into the next batch. Science and whatnot.

Yeah I had read the same thing, but thread being young and all I still think it might be worth a try…if you happen to encounter it as a problem in the first place. My first 7 jars did not clump so much. Probably brand/grade specific reasons

i didn’t have great luck with gypsum. but this tek works for me very well. i been shaking them up while hot, but more cause im getting a bunch of jars ready for LAGM stuff. i had one out of the water run clump irrevocably when i left them for a full two days.

I believe raising the jars above the waterline will prevent the majority of clumping. I tried gypsum with little success.

My jars sit in an inch of water in the instant pot, I run them for 3 hours and they don't clump if I take them out right away and shake them.
I use a pair of those rubberised disposable work gloves so that I can handle the jars right out of the PC. I tuck a thick piece of very dense foam (denser than a yoga mat) into the palm of the left glove and use that to bang the jars against.

Seems the consensus is to just beat the shit out of them while still hot. When I get some time on my hands I think I need to do a compare and contrast. If I can get away with letting the jars cool in the PC overnight by adding gypsum that would be much more conducive to my workflow.

Anybody tried japanese millet yet? I´ve got some at hand but quite unsure about water content. These bitches are about half the size of standard millet, very tiny. I´ll just different amounts i think.
