I don't know much Chinese, but once asked for the little black wormy things on the top shelf [cordyceps fruitbodies] and was told they were "Dong chong Xia cao";  "Winter worm, summer grass".

Cordyceps militaris has similar colouring...

and its cultivation seem to be easier than of C. sinensis..

Suntzu, how is your Cordyceps sp. doing?

edit:
more guesswork after searching with Google..
da mi = rice grain (big)
c(h)ong cao = Cordyceps (a bit different name for it ?)

I haven't done much with it since those last experiments. I'm not convinced it's worth trying to go through the 'insect sclerotia' stage again wthout a culture closer to multispore.
I'd love to get a hold of a 'newer' sinensis and try again with meal/silkworms. I'd also like to try to get a hold of a good militaris and try a 'silkworm pupa powder' recipe. Walmart has a nice selection of silkworm pupa powders.
Mushworld is a great source for cordyceps information; One thing that seems common is successful people going out in the wild for new cultures every year.
I once tried getting spores from purchased sinensis to grow on agar; no go.
