My FIRST success in fruiting! And questions about it
    #27315931 - 05/20/21 06:43 AM (3 years, 7 months ago)

Hi!

I'm new to growing mushrooms and had my first success! I have 9 cakes in the chamber and 4 have been abundantly fruiting. I've picked over 30 mushrooms in the last 2 days! The strain is Mexican Dutch King. However, now I have some questions.

One cake (the first one to fruit and fruited the most) is turning bluish. Does this mean it's spent and needs to rehydrate?

Secondly, my other 5 cakes (their strain is Entheogen Explosion) aren't pinning or fruiting at all. The cakes look good though. They are white and some have a little white fuzz on them. My chamber temp is between 70-75, they get plenty of air via pump (3 times a day) and I also manually open and fan. The humidity is also good (over 90%). Any suggestions?

pics or I think youre a dirty liar!  :psycrankey:

Jus playin, pics will help tremendously tho in helping you diagnose the issue.
the blue sounds like bruising, from either drying out or over misting, I haven't grown a single cake so my advice isnt worth much

HAHA Funny! Here are some pics. The closeups show the bluish tint, the other is to show the chamber the other cakes that aren't fruiting are in.

I would say that the 1st cake is pretty dry, hard to tell from the top shot, but I would assume the others are dry as well

hopefully one of our cake masters can chime in here, the pics help out 100% tho

*i can see beads on the cakes in the tub, but the single cake shot is dry

I thought that too. It's been in the fruiting chamber found about 10-11 days now so maybe they're needing to get rehydrated. But we'll see what else people say.

Congrats Elderwood.  Feels fucking awesome when you have your first mushrooms that you grown yourself.  I started with the PF TEK myself.

The bluish hue is from bruising.  I'm sure you're picking up the cakes and admiring the beauty of the shrooms.  It's hard not to pick them up but try not to handle them.

Cakes fruit at different times.  Especially if you use a MSS like I do.  You have multiple "families" of mycelium in one jar that are all different in potency, size, colors, mutation, ect.

I have 14 jars colonizing now and they're all at different stages.  From my understanding AGAR is the only way to have consistent growing.  But I start slow... PF TEK, now I'm shredding to shoeboxes.  Next agar to grain.

Good luck!

Thanks for the tip! I try not to handle them too much but I do pick up the cake when it's time to harvest. It's a bit difficult getting to some of the mushrooms without picking it up. I'll keep that to a minimum though. Thanks again!
