spore sex question

i always assumed PF recommended putting 4 inoc points in the jar because more surface area = faster colonization times, but now im wondering if it also equals 4 chances of isolating a 'superior specimen'. i dont know enough about how spores work. if you squirt 100 spores in one spot, do you just get 1 thing vs getting 4 by squirting 25 in 4 different spots? and therefor would a PF tek enthusiast be better off splitting up 1 cc of solution among even more than 4 inoc points? or is there a law of diminishing returns?
i know so little about this that i might not even be asking the question right, but hopefully someone knows what im getting at

Well spores will form tons (like tons) of dikaryotic mycelium (mycelium that has had sex with another mycelium). So when you squirt your spores into any number of inoculation points, that will form thousands of "strains of dikartiotic mycelium that will compete for resources (because every strain will try to expand indefinitely). But the multiple holes help spread the inoculation points, so mycelium will spread faster from many(er) points, so it will fully colonize in 1/4 of the time if it had 1 hole instead of 4.

All of the above. Some strains will combine, others will not. When using spores, you never know exactly what will emerge. More spores, or more inoculation points will provide more variability, thus increasing odds of at least 'some' success. Clone and continue to propagate what appears best. RR
