When Knocking Up BRF

I was just thinking, when shooting spore solution into BRF jars, wont the drop coming out right as ur about to stick the needle in each hole (after spritzing out a tiny bit to cool down the needle after flaming) be a vector for contamination even in a SAB? Would it be better to stick a hot needle in the jar or would that just cause too much burnt substrate to stick onto the needle?

After flaming just wait a few seconds, and get the needle in. It cools as you push liquid. Angle the syringe to let the needle hit the glass.

No, that drop just traveled through a red hot needle. Even the spores in that drop are dead.

I think you might be over thinking it.I believe Flaming the needle isn't to sterilize the spore solution coming out. You just have to hope the spore solution was made in as clean a process as possible. Flaming the needle kills any contams from the air that have landed on the needle and that may land on the needle for a little while after while its still hot. Dont worry too much about burned substrate on the needle . I have a tissue soaked in isopropyl alcohol on a plate ready to wipe off any substrate on needle after each jar before I flame sterilize again.

After you figure out how to kinda finesse them, they stop doing that. Unfortunately I can't really articulate what that means, it's a muscle memory thing. What I can say is that you have far more control if you hold your syringe like this:

Let your index finger act as a brake to the plunger.

I love squirting spores

But I flame my needle between every stab of the BRF.. I don't want a wet needle going and wetting my dry verm layer on top of the cake
