Not sure if there is one but.. Ill bite and share my pic of the day! Took this about 30 secs ago. So the story goes that most commercial King growers dont even bother going for the 2nd flush of Kings bc its not worth the time and space taken up. Totally understandable. In fact if we just talk masters mix in general I doubt many ppl wait for 2nd flushes as its just knowm that MM gives explosive 1st flushes and then is pretty much done. When I grew pearls and blues this was absolutely the case. I tried and waited for 2nd flushes of clusters with both varieties and nothing seemed to happen. Ive been growing Kinga for two years now, and this is the first time I gave an honest attempt at a 2nd flush.. and by fungi god it has not disappointed. Idk if it has something to do with King pin clusters being less energetic in general that a 2nd flush could be so good but all I can do is share my happy discoveries. I will absolutely go for a 2nd flush on all my King bags in the future now.

FYI: after first harvest I flipped the blocks and cut H's or X's on the bottoms then they went straight back into the SGFC. I lightly "peeled" the cut plastic away from the myc to allow air in to the new zone, no idea if that made a diff or not. Anyway hope you enjoyed my contribution excited to see others posts!

Nice. i get miserable results on second flush kings, im using bran at 20%.

theres this old thread with lots of cool pics:

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/18585112/fpart/1/vc/1

I'm having trouble uploading, all my pics are too big since the shroomery came back to life. Feel like i might have to buy a supporter account just to upload some fresh photos.

Nice Hummus! whats MM? what kind of kings are those, they look kinda brown? do they all grow like the "trumpet" varieties? or Pearl Varietyies?
whats BE on kings?
how long after first harvest did it take to get to that point?

and dave thats too bad. they should just give you a supporter account ha.

And sorry i dont have a pic atm i wasnt ready.

Well what do you guys think? can we have a "official" PYCPotD? I can change the title of this post of i would also be down to contribute on a regular basis

if there is no tuffs about it ill be back in a bit with some pictures!

Mm is masters mix I think.

My first flush on a good King bag is 6-700g and second flush is around 100g (800g dry ingredients). Not worth it to me for the last 100g because it takes up space and potentially harbors mold

Whoa dude neat setup! I'm still going to grab some pics in a few. And this seems to be of interest so I'll take the question mark off the title and maybe we can see a little more of each others work more frequently! Cause I'm digging all this personally ha

Lions mane pinning in bag.kinda like starting them this way,but want to try and side fruit, for the sake of harvest and retaining moisture.
First flushes are usually gnarly like this tho

Black poplar/ pioppino

Idk what's up with these kings, I had some good fat thinkers, but my humidifier  pretty much got disconnected for a day too..

Some meh lions mane, waiting for the next batch that's pinning actually, next round is supped  at 40%, this is second flush too.

Oysters I should have picked a couple daysago...

Can someone actually help me identify what's going on with that pic of the bigger LM, there is some white powdery super sporey fungi growing on the bottom?! Idk if it's the LM or what, it only appears on LM

Oof yikes your Kings are lacking air and just a little bit of light for grow direction. Kings seems to repsond very well to a small amount of light per day just to get their orientation right. Other oysters seem to be ok but maybe thats bc its just less noticeable in big clusters of blue or pearl pinsets. Kings are more singular so when one goes off its just that much more noticeable. To answer your questions I waited 2 weeks for my 2nd flush (yes way too long for anyone that needs to keep the grow flowing). MM is masters mix indeed and I honestly couldnt tell you the exact species of these Kings bc Ive been propogating the LC for too long and have forgotten. Should have written it down back when I got it but I was a poor mush scientist back then!

Also just a suggestion but a "pic of the week" thread may be more appropriate to give ppl time to read and post.

Nice setup Harry, very clean.

I fruit lions mane out the top like that as well farm3r, because I feel like I get better yields. I'm gonna have to experiment tho and write some numbers down because it's so much easier to harvest from a little hole rather than the top. I think that white stuff is just lions mane mycelium.

Have you tried top fruiting the black poplar? The harvest is so easy, one big handful and your done. I usually get 1lb from my 5lb blocks.

Humm so maybe I should cut the bag back further? I got some chonckers off it but idk.
I want to try a different strain of kings too. Am I right that trumpets are kings? Like black Pearl's are a type of king?  Idk this is actually the first batch if kings I've ever had, wish I had pics of what I harvested already.

I have top fruited the poplar,  those are actually second flush, I've found with poplar and chestnut sometimes it's easier to get a second onset if you side fruit after a top flush, even oysters but you dont want to top fruit oysters.. except kings lol, but I am trying some side fruiting on those too, after a top harvest. I definitely get alot of sidepons after a top harvest
Your poplar look really good Dave. And those kings are awesome hummus.

And idk I guess I'm just trying to keep it about the same as the thread in mushcult. Ide be surprised if this got 20% of the one over there.

Fair enough, she is a cutie. Been telling the dog if he doesn't start helping out things might start getting tight for him ha.

Fruited these shelves today, they should have 24 shiitaki blocks on them but they're a couple weeks behind.....

LM I'm really stoked for

It is a really cool variety. I really enjoy how it produces and how cool the fruit looks. I've had a little trouble trying to get the timing right for fruiting once the blocks are colonized but if you aren't in a hurry and can wait for it to do its thing then it always impresses with the finished fruit. (At least a week but sometimes 2 in the FC before pins form)

The flavor is good, nothing special compared with other oysters, but it did keep well in the fridge for longer than my blues or pearls. It really is a great compromise between kings and regular oysters with a better texture than kings IMO.

I've been able to get 2 good flushes pretty easily and I've preferred top fruiting for the size and shape of the finished product. Also seems more forgiving with a little less FAE than typical oysters. Definitely give it a go.

Really awesome pics everyone! Id like to try black pearls myself. Switching over to summer varieties soon, this is the last harvest of my Kings before next fall. I have Maitake bags taking up my air conditioned room so any suggestion on a good summer species is welcome. Otherwise I may just leave summer for hunting chanterelles and oysters and give growing a break. I dont want to lose my skills as a forager after all!
