Noobie Trying to grow Golden Teacher. Need HELP!

Hello,
Wanted to get some experts opinions on these shoe boxes. They have been in fruiting conditions for a little over a week (8 days or so).
Started with sterile rye bags, took 4 weeks to fully inoculate.
Mixed them with manure mixture from same rye bag company.
Here is a pic today, was worried about the black areas (but have read that is most likely spores dropped from mushrooms growing in the trays.
Just want to see if these are going ok? And if they should be ok to ingest once dried.

Is this the first flush? The substrate has already pulled away from the sides which makes me wonder if the surface conditions are just not up to snuff for them to start making a pinset.
That, or it is fighting contamination
And yes, they should be good to eat once dried

So Should I pick the big ones that have released their spores? and Let the others continue to grow? (Also i am absolutely amazed at how fast these things grow, a month or so to get to that point, but WOW, once the pins started, they grew pretty darn fast).
Thanks for the reply Ashtray, i'll just continue to mist them once or twice a day and see how much i can get out of these.

Is that the first flush? It's hopelessly dry if it is a first flush.

I guess there`s moisture everywhere, just not on the surface, where it belongs to. Pick them open capped, they have matured already. look here for surface conditions and compare with yours. This should be a personal sticky for all newbies signing up Of course they`re fine, even if not dried, they`re good looking.

Ok first thing you wanna do is take a long piss right into your grow box. Sounds weird but trust me, it will fertilize tf out of ur shrooms and will add some much needed heat and moisture. Secondly, take a massive steaming shit right in the center of ur box. Go ahead and refrain from shitting for a few days to maximize the weight. Smear it around all over. If you don'y have at least 10 pounds of shrooms by the end of the week, then you did it wrong and probably are gonna wanna keep trying until it works.

yes, this is my first flush (planting phase).
Should I soak the shoeboxes for 10-20 mins and pour out? Probably why there aren't more pins?
Thanks again everyone!

There are pins in, so no dunking yet. Give a good mist to the surface for now. Once you harvested everything off, you may dunk. I usually don`t dunk shoeboxes, just heavy misting or bottom watering carefully.

Sounds Good, just picked the 5 biggest ones, will try and rehydrate with heavy misting (to be honest, i have only been misting once a day, will up that to 2-3 times till they get more water).
Here are individual pics of shoeboxes.

Thanks again for all the informative replies!

In the future you may want to harvest a little sooner too. I have read that spores on your substrate will keep those areas from fruiting again. Definitely looks dry in the shoeboxes. Way to go on some beautiful GT's though!

Oh yeah, they shrunk a lot. I`d harvest off and dunk them for ~3hrs. They look totally sucked out.

"I`d harvest off and dunk them for ~3hrs."
Sounds good. I'm going to harvest the others in the next day or two, give a little more time to mature.
Forgive my ignorance, but when you say dunk, i'm assuming you mean fill the trays with water and let them soak for 3 hours, then pour the excess water out? If so, does it matter if I use tap water, or distilled water? We have a well, with 50-60 ppm water coming out the facet if that matters?
You guys are amazing, without reading for hours on this site, would never eve be at the stage i'm at. Appreciate all the great feedback and constructive criticism.
I do have one other question that has baffled me a little, and haven't been able to find anyone talking much about via the search function.
How is it that when you mix the rye berries and manure it is best to use a SAB, but once the first week of containment, you can just open everything up to the general air in the house and not worry about contamination as much? I still clean my hands, wear a mask and try not to disturb the air around everything, but surely something is going to get in there?
Again, THANK YOU!

No distilled needed. Dunk in the box and pour off then.
As you set up a tub, your spawn should be colonized, and your substrate pasteurized, if there's manure in. With just coir/verm for substrate pasteurization isn't needed. We all spawn open air, no SAB needed for this.

Here's a pic of yesterdays harvest

And Today's harvest

One question. This one had spore dump on it from another mushroom, is this ok, or should I cut the furries off?

Thanks Again!

Thanks. I am soaking the other two now, this one is just waiting till later today to pick the ones in the back (already got the 3 in the front). this one looks the best of the 3, think if i just fill it up to the substrate level with water for a few hours that it would be ok to leave the smaller pins?

The problem no one has mentioned is that you mixed it with Poo and not a bulk substrate that will hold water. So things like Coir and vermiculite would help to retain the water in the growing substrate. Poo can work as an additive but isn't needed for growing cubes. At this point you might be able to get a casing layer to help the surface conditions even out a bit. You can try doing a casing layer of Jiffy Mix straight out of the bag, or make a Peatmoss casing. I like this one here. Faht's Casing Mix

Ok, I have casing i can apply.
The Manure mixture states this. so it's not just poo
substrate is composed of five main ingredients including an organic compost specifically designed for mycological use, composted horse manure, organic coconut coir, vermiculite, and gypsum
The Casing states
organic peat moss, coarse vermiculite, hydrated lime (for pH adjustment), and granular gypsum
I'll apply 1/4-1/2 inch of the casing after i pour the water out.
I plan on doing this again later this year, so hopefully my 2nd go around will be much better. Thanks again.

Looks like a few good doses there.
It looks like the main problem is that your surface is matted up which screws the pin set. Usually it’s from getting it too wet and then drying out.
Shoeboxes shouldn’t need fanning and maybe only slight mist every couple days. I would also add a top layer to your next one, that made a huge difference for me.
Also making pasty tubs or monos and putting open shoeboxes in those works great.
