First attempt at Maitake starting to look nice and frilly. Turkey tail also doing well. Reishi getting tall in the bags. Got a bunch Shiitake and Maitake on the shelf at various stages.

So harvested my first Shiitake today. They look really nice but I'm a bit disappointed with the yield. Ended up with just 5oz from it. This was un-supplemented with extra spawn. Couldn't really let them go longer as the larger ones were about to drop spores.
Are these normal yields for un-supplemented?

So I started my first gourmet grow with 6 oats jars and 2 agar plates inoculated by purchased liquid culture of pioppino.

5oz on a 5lb block is low but the lack of supplementation could be why. Shii likes cool temps so keep that in mind. Blast them with the hose as you admit the blocks to the fc to help with pinsets.

So the pill bugs eat the sub but not the fruit. I'm pretty sure it is killing them as the population was decimated. Down to normal levels 👍 I'm hosing these down pretty vigorously ever other day. They don't seem to mind.

Finally tossed a grain of smutted (yeah, I'm making up my own word... ) corn on a plate like a week ago. Forgot about it and opened it up to find this nonsense
Corn sprouted and grew herpderp, penicillum took hold in various spots, the smut started growing (the blue bulbous thing by the sprouted grain that looks like a pan cinctulus pseudosclerotia), and bacterial colonies competed for dominance. T'was quite ugly. Gonna try another half dozen plates tonight...

Beautiful Maitake ! Can you tell a bit more about the substrate and the growing process?

Thanks,
IM just using un-supplemented HWFP with overfull jars of rye grain for spawn. I leave just enough room in the jars that I can still shake the rye while it's colonizing. Takes about 2 months once you S2B till they ready to fruit. Then cut the top of the bag off and toss them in the Martha tent.

Are you waiting for the start of fruiting in the bag or does it start when the bag is cut in the Martha? Do you have a pic of the pins? It makes me want to pull out an old liquid culture from the fridge. Thank you for all the information.
