They actually really aren't that difficult to grow. What IS difficult is the prep work required to grow them - AKA compost! I started on the compost back in like September or October. From start to finish, the composting process really should only take a few weeks. Despite my best efforts, I could just never get it to get sufficient hot to compost that fast.

Wow nice work

Blues will do really well outside right now depending on where you are. You don't need to bring them in for frosts, but I don't know if it gets significantly colder than say 28F, if you'd want to bring them in or not.
Looks good dude.
Those Portabellos look great man. Looks like straw under there?
Thanks dude, they did well outside since posting!

That looks fucked. I would pull everything off and start fresh but maybe just leave it and see what happens for fun. Next time try a single cut in the bag rather than taking the whole top off, oysters will do better with less surface exposed.
Black kings are the Best. Fun to grow, prolific, excellent taste and texture. Everyone should try em.

Is that an example of fruiting oysters when they have more humidity than FAE?

Yes boss I will do a single cut next time, I will let them run since it cost nothing to watch what happen

This is more than possible my FAE was way too low, RH is around 80-85%
New pins are starting, we will see in few days if something happens

I tried different setting for the FC. Some are in old-school PKTek FC and some in shoebox watertub.
All was lacking FAE for sure.

Found some F. Velutipes back in December. Started a culture from a spore print I took. Now we have this!! This was a "just for fun" grow, but it turned out really well! I get why they grow these the way they do commercially. Picking these in their natural form would be daunting. Grown on the same HWFP+Alfalfa blocks @ 1.4% Nitrogen I've been working with the last few months.
They have a very interesting smell... Pleasant, almost spicy (like a spice cabinet, not hot spicy). I'm kind of at loss for anything to relate the smell too. I found that to be the case with a lot of mushroom smells. They are unique and unlike any other smells I've yet experienced.
