That's awesome. Be cool if it had a false or removable bottom so you could re-stuff it with bulk sub again once it expires. Those fruits sure did turn out perfect, really a work of art.

Nicee im planning on doing something similar, have you seen this guy? http://www.samkshoemaker.com/
I listened to a podcast of him and he said reishi doesnt like supplementation, or just a bit of supp. I will make some test with 0 supp.
Im also doing some test with reishi on coir, will probably get smaller fruits but is a nice substrate for doing experiments since you dont need to sterilize it.

Reishi dries out before the fruits decay. I have a few dry blocks with antlers that I bring to the markets with me to act as educational tools and cool sculptures.
I'd let it dry then epoxy dip the antlers. That thing is a beautiful work of art for sure

I guess this belong here more than the other cultivation picture thread. Cordyceps Militaris growing in farm raised hornworm pupas.

I’m doing most of my grows on fortified brown rice just like everyone else. But since I work at a pet store and have access to the hornworms sold for reptile food, I figured why not. I get them heavily discounted or even free depending on the condition of the package. They’re an agricultural pest, so they need to be “used” or otherwise destroyed instead of being set free as adult moths. So I’m putting them to use. It’s getting a bit hot for cordyceps, so I hope these finish. I’m thinking about modifying a mini fridge so I can keep growing them through the summer. My first grow of this

Current grows are all in jars. Seems less productive, but far easier to prep and inoculate without contamination.

I'm not super informed on reishi cultivation but I have played around a bit with different substrates. They definitely perform better for me with a small amount of wheat bran added or a really high spawn ratio. I've tried differing amounts of soy and they grew weird. Maybe too much nitrogen for them idk. I remember hearing someone say they had good results supplementing with beet pulp

That's good to hear, the little bit of yellow fruits bother me but maybe it's nothing to worry about. Seems like good air circulation is important for them.

Yea you got a bit of blotch going on there. If that's the strain I think it is it's very prone to blotch. Make sure you're keeping your growroom very clean

Yes, it's 8801 so you're most likely right. I will put some extra elbow grease into cleaning.

I made a 5lb bran supplemented sawdust block in a 14a bag. As soon as it was fully colonized I broke it up and poured it in the vase. You have a very small window of time to do this because the block will get to where you can't break it up. I went this route to be safe from contamination without sterilizing the vase and inoculating it in the lab
Once the vase was full I made a tall humidity dome for it out of 2 xlsa bags taped together. I been thinking about different ways this could be achieved like a tall bin with some perlite or poly tubing
Thanks for the explanation. Sounds like something fun to play around with.

Awesome tip man. Was planning on taking some reishi as a display so once I have a really nice specimen would be nice to do this and have a perfect display as opposed to risking some growing cultures, especially in this heat. Do you do anything to the block itself?
Thank y’all for always sharing. This place is a wealth of information.

They are split between pinks, enoki and field blewitts.
The next batch will be mostly lions mane, with a couple of golden enoki.
I am absolutely loving diving into this!!
